Franken Dead Pool DS-ish Car
I'm really not interested is trying to make a faithful replica of anyone else's car, but the Dead Pool RC10 is a street based RC10 with my favorite Corvette body so I definitely need one as a runner (probably without real explosive charge, even though that would be so cool!). This is kind of a perfect RC for me because I love to chase cars down my street when they go past my driveway. I guess the bomb part is definitely a hard NO, even though it would be so cool....
I've been collecting parts fof a while and I think I'm going to use a DS for at least 50% of the build.
.
First off, starting with a Factory Works chassis plate, 3D printed 'pan' sidewalls, RC10DS nose plate, 6 gear trans with bearing outdrive bearing mod, RPM rear motor guard, custom D Hawk 5 slot wheels, D Hawk knock off style wheel nuts, Schumacher rear street tires and Custom Works front street tires (I wanted to try them out).

Re: Franken Dead Pool DS-ish Car
Just noticed you’ve incorporated your side body mounting into the chassis plate, smooth
Who do you race for ?
Me……. I race for me.
That’s impossible, I was told you need a sponsor to race.
Hey Cru ! Go balls out

Re: Franken Dead Pool DS-ish Car
Some slow progress. The DS suspension I want to use are from a car that sat in high humidity way too long. The hinge pins are all seized in place. Hopefully a CLR treatment will free things up so I can give them a good cleaning.
. .
Working on a dummy battery using a material that I infrequently use. Another iteration is needed with a few tweaks but it will work fine after that.

I'm all set for motor. Plenty of nice replacement armatures if I get really stupid.

Re: Franken Dead Pool DS-ish Car
An automatic center-punch might knock the pins loose.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

Re: Franken Dead Pool DS-ish Car
I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.
<edit: using an automatic center punch has worked pretty well to move/remove seized hinge pins>

Re: Franken Dead Pool DS-ish Car
Another baby step. I thought about using a Futaba fwd/rev ESC like the movie car. I had one left that came with another project car. I plugged in a battery to try it out and it immediately started smoking. The battery connectors did immediately fuse together so bursting into flames was able to be avoided.
This is the second Futaba ESC that I've had this happen. I think I'm done with them. Since it didn't get to total meltdown, I was about to repurpose the case around a Hobbyking ESC.

That's not good. Just received my Futaba MC 112B today, only to hear they are troublesome or faulty.Frankentruck wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 5:02 pm Another baby step. Do you know how they are having this issue? Were you using a NiMh battery?

Re: Franken Dead Pool DS-ish Car
I was using 6 cell NiMh to test. I fried in the middle of testing (last year) and this one immediately when battery plugged was plugged in.

Re: Franken Dead Pool DS-ish Car
I've got 7 or 8 Futaba esc's. The only problem that I've had was a bad potentiometer on one.

Re: Franken Dead Pool DS-ish Car
6-cell NiMh is also what I was planning on using to test it. Now I'm wondering if I should do this out in the street, instead of indoors.Frankentruck wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 7:53 pm I was using 6 cell NiMh to test. I'm probably just a magnet for the bad ones.juicedcoupe wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 8:51 pm I've got 7 or 8 Futaba esc's. The only problem that I've had was a bad potentiometer on one.
