In 1985 Kyosho released an entry level 1/10 2wd electric off-road buggy named the Icarus into their lineup. An open bodied version of Kyosho's Pegasus the Icarus was an entry level kit geared towards novice hobbyists. Using the same molded ABS construction and simple componentry as the Pegasus, a large plastic tub with a bottom accessible battery held the cars electronics and the double a-arm front and swing axle rear suspension featured engineered hinge sections in each arm that relied on the flexibility of the plastic for suspension articulation instead of hinge screws or pins. Adjustable collar coilover friction shocks at all four corners dampened oscillations but the Icarus received gold anodized aluminum shock body's. Z-bend linkages with threaded rod ends and a Kimbrough style servo saver up front would continue their steering system duties while out back a sealed transmission case bolted to the chassis and contained a molded nylon bevel gear transmission that delivered power from the rear mounted motor, itself protected by a tubular style plastic cage, out to a pair of plastic dog eared driveshafts. Metal axles at all four corners secured the three-piece chrome plated nylon wheels wrapped in Mud Star 11.50R 15 knobby rear tires and Mud Star II 5.00R 18 ribbed front tires. Sold as an unassembled kit with a plastic roll cage, clear lexan wing and driver the Icarus also included a large plastic front bumper, upgraded Lemans 360ST motor and mechanical speed controller, less radio. Sold in Germany by Graupner the Icarus would share it's chassis with the aforementioned Pegasus, Kyosho Cosmo, Cox Bandito and Cox Ultra Stock:
