Traxxas TRX-3 Opinion?

I like it!

I want one someday, as well as the TRX1. I was a Traxxas fan from the beginning. The TRX3 reminds me of the RPM chassis in a way.

I have an ols Traxxas / Graupner Radicator "Expert", and its all metric, if the TRX'es are the same, then no they are not a direct fit.

The only thing I wasnt a fan of was the big bore shocks on the TRX3 but that was a small gripe as they performed exactly the same and were dead smooth..

Dude, you say a lot of illogical stuff......so what didn't you like about the big bore shocks? Sounds like they were ahead of their time - bigbore is "big" in 1/8th and is starting to appear in 1/10th off road too (well, mainly the X11 which is a special case... )

This was a nice car, super rigid chassis, very nice combination of shocks, very interesting and unique slipper clutch. Too bad no meaning race result...

TRX-3 - a few weeks ago i bought myself a NiB one on ePay (from a member of this board if I ain't mistaken). In hindsight i paid too much for it but I my finger slipped on the button that week because I had gotten a raise then

I guess the question is, why was traxxas able to do such a good showing with the TRX-1 (esp. in detroit in the hands of Rick Velhow), after which the TRX-1 took national level racing by storm, and then were completely unable to duplicate this success with the TRX-3? What was so wrong about it that it NEVER took off, commercially speaking?

Additionally - wth happened to the trx-2?

Well I got better set ups with the TRX1 shocks. The 3s were not as nice, yes they felt the same but on the cars they perfomed slightly differently. TRX1 are still the best shock I have ever used.

Mate, I owned one and with a hydra drive on there isnt much out there that can keep with it, that is if you set it up correctly and adjust your driving style for the hydra drive. When Team Traxxas gave me the oportunity to own one, the first race was on a dusty dry dirt track and I have to admit and most people will say the same that raced against me, I was not good on dirt if the track was bone dry. The car was dialled and awsesome and I made the B main (I missed one qualifier by mistake - my own stupid fault) but the time I put in the final was quicker than the Team Traxxas driver when he won the A main. Enough said really.gr8 car

Is it true that the team drivers mostly used the wider trx-1 front arms (until the dedicated wider TCP arms came out?

I have just sourced a trx-3 and will race it on loose dirt- be really interested what the team drivers found worked with the car in terms of setup.

Well, the team drivers either had custom bulkheads or modified front TRA1931 arms because the 1931 arms are incompatible with the TRX-3 in their stock configuration due to the shock mount angle...the lower shock mounts are too far back in relation to the upper mounts....I'd estimate a 15 to 20° difference, leading to the lower half length of the shocks interfering with the shock tower. You can't space the tower rearward the needed 5mm without blowing out the steering linkage clearances either. So you either need to move the inner arm "pin tubes" 5mm forward on the front bulkhead (3D print or custom milled, etc.) or carve out 5mm of the lower shock mount screw "guides" (thus, losing thread purchase AND introducing the need for lower shock mount spacers [as needed/included/used on the TRX-3]) in the forward direction to bring the mounted shock angle more in line with the 30° "kick" of the front bulkhead. Ask me how I know.

Now, I have not explored the use of AE "long front arms" for RC10 but I hear they are a near perfect fit (for TRX-1). No idea if the shock location in these AE "long front arms" for RC10 is compatible with TRX-3 shock angle(s). AND no idea of material removal to achieve the more "laid back" shock angle needed.

Basically, you can run TRX-3/TCP arms on a TRX-1 utilizing the shock spacers in the lower mounts as intended for a TRX-3 application. However, you cannot run TRX-1 arms (TRA1931) on a TRX-3 without modification(s).

And for Petessake take your own measurements before you cut or commission anything, cuz my 5mm is an estimate.

I can follow up with some pictures if you need them...but it's 9:30pm here, everyone is asleep, and I'm typing this while sitting on the dumper. Apologies for my straightforwardness.

Oh, I just remembered the SRT/Rustler/Bandit front bulkhead mod. Maybe you can use that, depending on which direction the inner arm mounts need to be shaved....standby....

Nope, you gotta shave off the rearward portion (I haven't done this mod in quite awhile, there may be some wiggle room in that 2500 series bulkhead to achieve that forward movement needed) but check this mod out anyway if you're gonna hit the track with it. It essentially translates to an endless supply of front bulkheads
