AJ's tires on Jellybean wheels

Post by juicedcoupe »

Am I missing something here?

I picked up some new chrome Jellybean wheels and a set of NIP AJ's tires.

I see that the tires have a inner lip on both sides. Because of that, the internal spacer rings couldn't be used.

After putting everything together, I'm getting a very notable gap at the wheel. The back side isn't as bad but I can still see it.

I've seen other members use AJ's tires, so what's the trick?

Do I need to remove the inner lip/s from the tires and use the spacers?

Aj's are quite a bit thicker compared to Tamiya tires (what it's designed for) which creates the issue.

Do the outer halves sit properly in the tire without the ring? If so, you can trying trimming the ring down.

I'm not currently using the ring at all. The inner lips of the tires occupy that space. When I tried to use it, I couldn't get the wheel anywhere near together.

That section of the wheel looks to be bottoming against the lips.

As long as the wheel isn't spinning inside the tire on throttle (if you were actually using them), that's all that matters.

I decided to remove the inner lip from the tires and install the spacer rings.

It stretched the tire out to the bead and flattened the tread.
