LWB TF4/Lazer/ZX-S "missing link"

Post by nadrepadre »

I've always been fascinated with the development of the ZX-S and the similarities between the tf4 and Lazer and the involvement with Team Atlas. I decided to attempt creating a hybrid of what might have been tested by Atlas pre-zx-s. I put optima arms on a tf4 a couple years ago and long shocks, but the car was very touchy on turns and would oversteer pretty heavily and often times it would flip on high grip surfaces. Might have just been my suspension settings, but I've always had a lot more control with a longer chassis. LWB mids and Lazers having a wheelbase of 275mm (I believe) were always much more fun.

I contacted Factory Works RC and had them stretch an Atlas TF4 upper and lower deck by 20mm bringing them up from 257mm to 277mm. I locked the main shaft for the tf4 rear box so it was full time 4wd. Using a 6mm wide belt to drive rear Comet Racing ball differential, and a 5mm wide 546mm length belt driving standard tf4 ball differential up front. Will be using ZX-S camber links up front to mitigate any movement of hubs. Will likely sandwich the arms between two shock towers using standoffs as I've done on regular Lazers.

Lazer control arms front and back with 10* c-hubs. Overall it should perform well I think. In hindsight, I propably should have added a slight kick up to the lower deck. Would also like to reinforce the front shock stay using blocks bolted to the upper deck.

Have a couple tf4 hyperclutch assemblies so I'll be using that to turn the main shaft. Here you can see an original atlas TF4.5 deck next to the LWB deck.
