stink the pink does waterbury

Post by badhoopty »

welp, methinks this is what i want to run at the vintage nationals. ever since i gave the stinky pinky a new home and a new build its been one of my favs.

Image

it if were any other buggy i would siebenslam it, but i think i'm going to keep the tub as it is and rock it hi-boy style.
i have an a&l chassis brace i could use on it, but i'm thinking a little flex in the chassis would be good for a total novice like me.

the pic doesnt show it well, but the pink wing is sunfaded... i picked up the neat crp aerotech wing off ebay a little while back for cheap, but i'll probably just use the one on it. fitting the lipo with the velcro puretech strap will require drilling the chassis or making new mounts for the strap since the lipo is just too wide to nestle in there the way it is. i'll prolly just use a battery cup and the pink s&k battery hold-down.

i also see that alot of the people racing updated old tubs add weight up front, so after i build it and run it awhile i might use the alloy front bulk if it pushes alot. i might just use it anyway since its so damn cool looking... 8) all other supsension bits will be rpm. the only stock piece of white plastic will be the tranny case. you should all know by now i'm an aftermarket whore... but i'm keepin' the stock ratio stealth instead of the rpm version to make better use of gearing options for brushless as from what i understand from reading you dont need to gear down near as much.

i'm still needing some duratrax evader wheels with the appropriate tires, and a diff rebuild. i will most likely get the novak gtb 17.5 brushless for it, but i want to research what systems seem to be the favorite among people racing.

using b2 cvds with the rpm gt rear carriers will work with the duratrax wheels, right?

I can't say this very often but that sure is purdy
What color wheels you thinkin about from duratrax to go with the pink? With that pink I think just about ANY of their colors would look good...

yellow wheels.

i ended up trimming about 1/4" off the sides of the tub to get the body to sit a little better over the chassis. with the powdercoated tubs (or at least this one) the extra powder buildup around the edges made the body fit a little weird and flare out when installed.

while i do love the look of a siebenslammed protech, for what amounts to a vintage gtg i'm rocking the oldschool trimlines. i just wanted the body a tad bit lower. ;)

the a&l chassis brace works pretty well with the much shallower lipo when its installed upside down. i'll end up trimming the battery cup section off the rpm bulkhead and using a slimmed down battery cup in its place but thats not a big deal.

the steering setup is from an rpm ultra molded chassis with the upper wishbone cut off behind the bellcranks. this might not be the build to use it on since it's really really tight with the a&l braces and i dont want to dremel either the braces or the bellcranks. i still got some grinding room on the nosetubes before i completely give up the idea. if it dont pan out i'll run a&l steering.

anyhoo. crappy worktable pics.

I would run that one! Could you snap a few pics of the front end and possibly include a description of what parts you used and how....? Pretty please with sugar on top

Dude, if that is a MINTER, don't run it/ruin it. Sell it to me. I have always loved that unknown chassis.
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

maybe later... 8)

if you are resourceful enough with a search the info you want does exist on this board.... i tried to find it for ya, i know i made a post in the general section asking if anybody knew anything about them, but cant for the life of me remember any good words out of it to search by...

its pretty much just a double decker composite craft chassis but with a much wider front portion of the upper plate. doing so lets ya put the camber links on the plate instead of the shocktower, which lets ya flop the front bulkhead and mount the tower in the front.

its not a one off. i have 2 of these chassis that i got off ebay at seperate times, so they are out there... i was told in a long lost email that some guy made them and traveled around to different races selling them. i'mm sure if it was just one guy he was pretty local or didnt make very many. i've only ever seen the 2 i have.

this one i brought back from the dead. i had to cut the bottom out of a tub to fix alot of damage in the rear, but its pretty solid now. i might even trim some more of the front section off to lighten it a tad more and get some more flex in it. that little lip created by the aluminum patch isnt going to cause a problem is it?

it's far from mint. i brought it back from the dead... it showed up with a couple layers of paint completely covering it, the rear suspension holes were blown out ,and there was a crack on the upper deck at one of the rear bulkhead mounting points.

the other one i have is alot nicer, but has been raced or used by somebody who took very good care of it.

scr8p actually got me thinking about it a few days back, but tonight when the lipo just slid right in was when the magic happened... 8)

Is that a patch or did you cut and replace with that aluminum part? If its a replacement can you put the aluminum on the topside of the chassis? Mostly just curious but it reminds me of a doubledecker NEW ERA rc10gt chassis. Wouldn't give you MY first born but will give you my WIFE'S first born for it  .
