I tried it a few times, but always seemed like the motors lost low end torque.....
thats the thing about stock motors that most cheaters wouln't tell you but to gain torque from a stocker retard the timing a few degrees, works great on short tight ovals.

that's because increased timing equals more rpm, and less torque. and unless you running oval, you don't need a ton of rpm.

brushes, springs, and spending time on the dyno. that's where it at. no need to be messing around.

my buddy had a tekin 900 dyno. we used to sit in the back room of the hobby shop and play with motors all day.

the start of the new race season was always fun, too. we'd get to the track, with a stack of different brushes and spring to try in our new handout motors. he'd get the motors all setup, while i was shakin' the cars down with the motors from the year before.

Hey guys,

I talked to Mark (RCHR) a bit about the VONATs, and he said rules are going to be the same, so far.

Same classes, same specs.

I asked him about a "Box Stock Class", and judging by his and others reactions, it didn't fly too well.

any other track would say............ if there's at least 3 cars, we'll run anything. i guess they just don't want to make another $40 per car.

it'd be cool to have a pure vintage class, i understand why some of you have the nostalgia for the real vintage experience, but i dont think it was so bad the way it was. not only that but it was hectic enough with just the classes we had.

i'm definitely going to get my own transponder this time.

being as though it was your first race, and running 2 classes on top of that, i can see why you'd feel that way. but, it really wasn't that bad.

just to add.............

if they don't want to add a "pure stock" class, that's fine. in talking with another member, there's a larger indoor facility to the west of me (about the same travel time, +1 hour or so) that could easily handle putting on a vintage meet. so, it doesn't really matter to me. if this vintage racing gets any bigger, the track in ct will be too small to handle the attendance anyway, in my opinion. and i could see a lot more 10talk members attending a race at this other track because of it being more of a central location.

That was the biggest P.I.T.A. with racing 'back in the day'. Putting nice pretty numbers on the car. Having to change said numbers (usualy just white tape and a sharpie over the 'permenant numbers' on the body) because of a conflict (in addition to TX/RX crystals).

I always felt sorry (and grateful) for the folks that were doing the scoring back then. A packed main was not fun to keep track of...

How much bigger do you really think it's gonna get?? If we start having separate local events, then it's not really a Vintage Nationals, it's more like Vintage Regionals or something.

We had a lot of people there, but we could've fit more, some of the locals did bring tables and chairs, but there wasn't really a need for them.

Mark (RCHR) also mentioned, while a lot of the RC10Talk guys own a lot of the "Box Stock" stuff, a lot of the people there, bought a vintage car for the first time, just to run the event.

Let's for example say, that 10 people on here say they want to run the "pure stock" class, how many are actually gonna show for it?? how many people on here said they were gonna show up and actually showed??

Like I said before, RCHR wont add another class, but if enough people do show up, they'll open up a class for those of you who want to run the "pure stock." Those guys are very flexible when it comes to racing classes.

Don't give up on the VONATs just yet....

i don't know, which is why i said "if". i hope it gets big enough that the host track changes every year. west one year, central the next, then the east, and back to the west. something like that. especially for a "national" event.

if you haven't noticed, there's a lot more members on here from the west/midwest as there is the northeast. so really, if the track had been in a more cental location, i'm sure the turnout would've been much better.

as for them not making a pure stock class.............. i don't see what the problem is. who cares if only 5 show up? they had a 4wd class and that's how many were there. not to mention, if there are people that would want to run this class and aren't a part of this forum (highly unlikely), how would they know about it?

i'm not giving up on the 09 vonats in ct, but i have no problem with driving 4-5 hours west instead of northeast if another track comes along to host a big vintage meet. ya, maybe it won't be able to be called the "nationals", but it really doesn't matter to me. just as long as i get the chance to meet some more members.
