Nose tube drilling questions

Post by RichieRich »

For those of you that have used a truck noseplate on the RC10 chassis, how did you drill new holes in the nose tubes? I have a drill press if that helps any...not very familiar with it though.

Also, I can't seem to find the drill bit that came with my 4-40 tap. What size should I use? 3/32?

Looks like the proper drill bit for a 4-40 tap is a #43 size.......

The nose tubes are soft enough that using a drill that is slightly too small should be ok. Just use the largest bit you have that fits cleanly through something that is already tapped for 4-40.

Starting the drilling is the part I have the hardest time with. I usually use a file or x-acto to create a flat spot where I need to drill, otherwise the bit walks all over the place on the curved surface.

just use a center punch, and tap it with a light hammer to leave you a dimple. Drill bit will not walk out on you then.
