Vintage RC10 - which shock rebuild kit?
Vintage RC10 - which shock rebuild kit?
Think I posted this question in the wrong forum. Please see below....thanks in advance for any advice:
Please could someone advise me which shock rebuild kit I need for (i) original RC10 and (ii) original RC10 CE.
Looking at what is around, it seems there are 2 to choose from; one is item 6467 (rebuild kit for 2 shocks) and the other is item 6440 (rebuild kit for 4 shocks). Which is the right one for the above cars?

Re: Vintage RC10 - which shock rebuild kit?
the rebuild kits for the old style shocks are discontinued, and quite expensive when/if you can find them. if your rebuilding an old set of shocks, all you really need to replace is the red o-rings which are all the same from any associated rebuild kit. you might even be able to buy just the o-rings (i doin't really know). but, your gonna have to be careful not to screw up the retaining clip. i'm sure they could be found somewhere though if you did.

i think you can get the retaining clip from mcmaster-carr.
the o-rings are easily gotten from mcmaster-carr also, but they come in packs of 50, probably for the same price you'd pay at a hobby store for like 8 'rc orings'. they are simply 1/8" silicone orings.

Theres a guy on rctech and hobbytalk (kvrc)Kevin) that sells the o rings cheap,I use them in all of my shocks and have never had any problums. Heres the link http://www.rctech.net/forum/r-c-items-sale-trade/264968-silicone-shock-o-rings-1-10-cars-trucks.html
Re: Vintage RC10 - which shock rebuild kit?
Can one recommend how to get the retainer clips out the safest way possible without ruining them? Ive got two sets of snap ring pliers but they both for automotive purposes and they are a little big for my old school rc10 shocks' clips.
***used a sewing needle carefully pried up one side, and slid the needle around under the clip to unseat it!
