Re: What Ultima is this?
Yes, Looks like a Trinity chassis and it looks like the tranny has the good stuff inside (48p). Very nice. I am looking for some insides like that to built a runner.

Re: What Ultima is this?
thorp gears and balldiff I think. the Mip version looks different. Kyosho never made fine pitch internals and only had black coloured gears. I don't know if those larger round holes belong on a trinity chassis, not on a JG for sure, maybe duratrax or any of those 3 modified with a large drill ???
Re: What Ultima is this?
I found these pics posted by prp in the Joel Johnson replica thread. He says chassis is Trinity/Composite Craft. It looks pretty much like what I have.

I have several Kyoshos but I haven't cracked any of the transmissions until now. Is it standard Kyosho or other?adam lancia wrote:Have you opened up the transmission yet? might be some goodies in there considering it's already got 48p gears on the outside
That counter gear looks a little chewed..did it come w/any extras?

I don't know what the /composite craft stands for in PRP's description but it's a trinity for sure:

Like these?
They're used, but might be ok for a runner.

Thanks for the clear chassis picture Mr. Ed!
Diggley, I might take you up on that.

That chassis sure would look great with a bunch of my spare parts attached to it. All these Ultima re-build threads got me interested in yet another project.
I could kick myself for letting that last Pro XL chassis go on eBay....I guess I should start stepping up in the bids..

Re: What Ultima is this?
Looks like a Trinity chassis to me, and the internals look like thorpe. I would definatelly change out the internal gears though. At least the layshaft gear, as it looks REALLY worn and won't last long. The diff gear looks to be in runable shape, but would be destroyed quickly by the worn layshaft gear.-Jeff
-I am also looking for 48p internals, so if anybody has new or good used (for a runner) LMK.

Re: What Ultima is this?
I had plans to offer up some gear options for the Ultima about a year ago. It all went in the freezer with the unexpected recall from Japan.
Maybe I should pick it back up, then again, shipping from belgium is so bitching expensive

Thank you for the advice and sharp eyes! Now - where to find those parts...Jay Dub wrote:Looks like a Trinity chassis to me, and the internals look like thorpe. The front shock tower looks like A&L to me...

Progress - this is gonna be cool!
Well, I set this car aside for a long while but just had to tear into it this week. Here's a few current pictures. I like where this is going.
The hot trick rear shock tower was in sad shape. Aside from being faded and dinged up it was bent horribly, drilled full of holes and otherwise tortured with a drill. So, I didn't feel too bad about trying to save it. I think it looks pretty decent now.

Re: Ultima rebuild. Updated 12/30/09
This car will be a runner so just about everything on it is recycled. It was fun making this into a cool rig after it starting as such a beater. I am debating on what body to use so I threw on this ruined Optima Mid shell just to see how it looks. It would need a little trimming around the steering linkage but other than that it just dropped on. The wheels are painted original style. I had yellow rears and white fronts and neither looked too good so...paint.
