The 3.1 is a totally different speed control. The 2.1was a good ESC but the 3.1 takes it to a new level. The 3.1 has something like 30 adjustable items where the 2.1 had like 12. I think the 3.1 is also more powerful and more efficient which you can feel on the track. You can also run 10 different ESC profiles which is quite handy, plus if you run a hobbywing motor you can take advantage of the data logging.

Stick to the genuine article if you can, the 90 is good but if you can afford it get the 120. I've used both the V2.0 and V2.1 120A ESC's without trouble, and the V3.1 which is amazing.

What´s the main differences between the V3.1 and the older ones? Also do you feel any differences at the track?

I use both V3's and V2's (in V2.1 and xtreme stock form), although in different cars so I can't compare on the "feel" side. Long story short, the V3's have a much smaller footprint than the V2 and somewhat smaller than the xtreme stock, no external switch, a lot more programmability (which is a double-edged sword as it's easy to do silly stuff with the 20-something parameters to set brake, boost, turbo and such) and a higher price tag (about 2x...).

My advice to people at the track and on the internet that ask this Q is, if a V2 fits and you aren't part of the top 5% at your track, get a V2 and buy extra tires with the money you have left

Yep, exactly this, RC10th is one who certainly will get a benefit out of the V3.1 (the guy is a machine ) whereas someone like me just bombs around mid pack where the V2.1 suits me in both my buggy and wheeler.
