Interesting idea about the 1st chassis only allowed. But what year you cut it off at, XX is old but is not 1st chassis. Lets take JRX2 in theory as the 1st Losi. Would you allow JRX Pro or JRX pro SE, what about Junior 2 chassis. JRXT is technically the 1st chassis of its series being longer but it is not the original. I would lump them all together due to the LRM transmission. And would said JRX2 have to run 5 link or would H-arms be allowed?

I like the idea but it gets complicated when you start slicing and dicing. I think the best equalizer as stated would be blinky mode or hand out motor.

The XX was allowed at Vonats because it had a production date of Dec. '94. The cutoff was '94. IMO, should not have been allowed. Last year or the year before Erich bumped it up another year to '95. Now the B2 is allowed.

At the end of the day, I don't think anything other than a basically stock rc10 buggy has won the 2wd class. Well, other than Kinwald's car in 2014 that was loaded with B5 stuff.

Go right back to "in the spirit"...JR2, JRX Pro, SE...they were all the same design, different materials, different suspension set ups...but all still truly 'first gen', moving from 5 link to H arms was and is period correct, no issues there.

Please understand, I am not criticizing the race or the decisions around the race, it is a great thing for the hobby and us Vintage guys overall. These are just my opinions to keeping the race closer title and naming.

One day, I will be able to attend, with my cars, and have a great time around like minded guys. THAT is the reason to go.

Agreed, I hope to attend one day and it will be a period correct JRXT if I have my way. I view this more as many of the threads around here, talking about RC cars for the hell of it, no criticism or anything of that nature, just brainstorming.

In the end its a ton of work to put something on like this and the fact that anyone is willing to do it is reward enough.

So now back to me dictating the rules. It should be only 5 Link JRX based cars with hand out motors, we all know that no other car matters anyways.

While you're at it why not mandate period correct clothing, food and drinks as well. I will have some stone washed guess jeans rolled tight above my hi-tops while drinking a Capri Sun.

I would definitely agree with no lipo and no brushless regardless of time period if you call it vintage...

I don't think date should even be used to regulate which cars compete in which classes. We know what the cars were, and how they performed so specific lists of what cars we want to see racing against each other in a class can be created.

Same issue in much real vintage auto racing today. Some of the cars running around pretending to be a 69 Trans AM or whatever make and yet underneath have 14" brakes, multi link suspension, fuel injection etc. etc.

At the end of they day we are racing toy cars and if I show up and race my Tamiya Falcon and get whooped by a RC10 Worlds or XX it really doesn't matter as long as you had fun. Conversely if said other guy really gets off and feels superior by beating the Falcon so be it.

Hey Guys,
I followed this over from the electronics board. I have to say when I heard about guys racing vintage 1/10 off road stuff, I ran to dust off my equipment. Then I saw it was a Lipo and Brushless tainted thing, and sadly put it all away. The motor building, tuning, and battery work is what was fun for me 20 years ago, but I was one of those dorky kids that spent more time in electronics and shop class than anything. So yeah I was "that" guy that may not have been the best driver, but was one of the fastest because I put in the nerd time. Sadly that all seems to be in the past as that mechanical, electronics side of the hobby has vanished. I was kind of hoping vintage would bring it back....and maybe it still can if enough people want to have that fun again. Or seriously was I the only guy that enjoyed dyno time??
