TAG Pro10 mag review car with options

Wasn't the Pro 10 released in 1988?

I'm assuming so as the mag review in from the September '88 edition of RCMC, and that would have been on the shelves at the beginning of August, so probably written in July? Not sure on when the first Pro10 ads were seen in the UK mags but i can check easily enough.

I guess one thing to note is that the 'white wishbone' team cars were essentially Pro10's in all but name. The aluminium shock towers were very slightly different in design, but the white wishbones were of the same bulked up design as the subsequently productionized car, and they were running throughout the 1987 season including at Romsey, but wearing Coyote stickering. They went with white wishbones as the material was slightly stronger, similar to the white 870c wishbones. They also had the rear track adjusters, roll bars and the like.

My car came with all of the kit paperwork so i will have to have a look through for any evidence of dating.

This advert for the 'NEW Pro10' featured in the May edition of RCMC magazine, so that was out on the shelves in April (in the UK at least).

Bit of work on the Pro10. First off I switched the standard shocks to Option House - my go to choice bitd and also what the TAG team drivers ran. I also fitted the optional front ARB kit at the same time, as well as relocating the front shock tower ahead of the front bulkhead and thus moved the upper front shock position behind the tower giving a slight geometry tweak. I have also swapped out the steering and rear toe-in adjusters to the gold spare set I had (did anybody notice on page 1 that one of the rear ones is missing a hole?) and added gold Gisom alloys. Next step is to fit the optional ‘attack angle kit’…. my job for tomorrow.

I now know that the two vertically inline holes on either side of the front and rear towers are for locating the ARB kit parts…. I now need to find another set for the rear.

Correct, although Umberto tells me they just used to shim the existing pivot balls with a stack of washers and then just use slightly longer fixing screws to produce the same effect. To be honest now he has told me that I might just go that route rather than risk popping the wishbone balls in and out and loosening them unnecessarily.

It'd be better using a stack of washers. Much more fine tuning available that way.

Are those Gisom wheels slightly larger than two inches in diameter?
I noticed the stock red wheels run very close to the hub mounting screws on the rear. The Gisoms seem to clear the screws by a little bit more.

Yeah i was a bit like that as soon as he mentioned it.... 'duuur why didn't i think of that?!'

Gisom rims are identical in diameter to the standard red wheels, but the outer lip is thinner (I assume as they don't require the strength) so they are very slightly narrower. The dish is a little deeper on the alloys too, pushing them outwards very slightly.

Cool. I've seen a few pictures of Pro 10s with deeper dished alloy wheels on the rear. It always looks better to my eye. Unfortunately the Pargu wheels I have are the same depth to the wheel face front and rear.

If you add washers your also moving the balls farther away from each other, too much and it's going to bind up ,I'm sure it would work but your only going to get a few ° angle .

Yeah i have seen those deeper dish rear pictures too. Look fabulous. I only have a couple of pairs of deeper dish rear Gisom wheels but they are both the versions with more holes. I have them on my narrow rear XL and my Mini Mustang.

If you add washers your also moving the balls farther away from each other, too much and it's going to bind up ,I'm sure it would work but your only going to get a few ° angle .

I guess the attack angle kit limits are within those tolerances so you are looking at about that height/distance change using washers before the movement becomes compromised. I will give it a go and see how it turns out.
