Re: Discussion - shelfer or runner
I prefer that version too, but I already have a bad back.
That's got to be killer on the Chicago streets with all the potholes we have!
On the flipside of the OP, there are the enthusiasts that say works of art like classic cars or vintage rc cars are MEANT to be driven. It's what they were intended to do, but I think I'm too much of a tightwad to destroy or use up something that cannot be easily or cheaply replaced (or even at face value). This brings to mind the catastrophic Brian Redman vintage event at Road America in 2005. If you're willing to play with your toys, you're willing to lose them as well...

I wouldn't feel comfortable driving my scarce RC car on the road only to have a semi run it over or to have it drop down a sewer on accident... Do that with one that you can replace.

Wasn't that Road America at BRIC? I think that was the year after I went. Lots 'o dollars there!

Men wouldn't have periods, we'd have 9 paid days off every month!badhoopty wrote:can you imagine if dudes actually had periods? we'd be freaking nasty with it...
(at least i would.)

There is one question, would mothers ever let their sons out of the house? (that would be the flip-flop of the father/daughter scenario that we all chuckle about now )

Yeah, that was the BRIC in '05. The amount of money turned to scrap metal was sickening.

A Voltaire quote huh? Well if I may, I am not bothered by the shelf queen comments as...“Prejudices are what fools use for reason.”Eau Rouge wrote:What's that saying... "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
I also like, if you don't have something good to say, don't say anything...I enjoy my cars and everyone else's, there's no need for slagging.
*puffs peace pipe*
P.S. I'd love to have a repro AC Cobra and drive it.

Re: Discussion - shelfer or runner
This is a subject that is close to me. Right from the very start of my collecting I have copped grief because of what I have and how I do my collecting. Eventually I even wrote an article about it for the magazine - if you guys are interested - I can post the unedited version here if you would like. I am sure the magazine wont mind at all.
I have over 400 of these darn things - from completely thrashed beaters to restore - through to perfect NIB kits. ALL of them are special - all of them are for MY gratification - not someone else's.....it peeves me ALLOT that people seem to think that they have the right to judge others because they have something different or do things differently to them. I collect and run my cars for ME.....Everyone should do this hobby for themselves - not what they think others believe they should have.
whew - vent over.
LMK if you guys want me to post the unedited text from the article.
Cheers
Darryn

No, Evelyn Beatrice Hall.
