the hot trick chassis wouldn't work with out having to make tabs to mount the main frame. But the hot trick chassis does great I have one that I built into an oval it came out really nice. You could always grab some carbon fiber and cut out a new chassis just use urs as a template

After a long hiatus on this project I finally have something to share. I spent some time today screwing this together. I am having a couple of weird fit issues though. Having never had one of these I am not sure how the suspension is supposed to be set up. On the rear suspension specifically I have had to move the connecting rod to the bottom hole in order to obtain clearance to the roll cage. This puts the rod at a weird angle but does not cause any binding issues. I assumed that short shocks are the norm on the rear of these cars but you can see it pulls the rear arm up at about a 15 degree angle. Is this normal or ok? Should I be using a longer shock? Also while your looking at the back end notice how far out towards the end of the outdrive the dogbone is riding. It goes inside a bit farther with shock compression but still bugs me. One more issue, now at the front of the car. Look how far the ends of the down tubes are from the shock tower. I still haven't drilled this shock tower for connecting but any attempt to pull this gap together results in enormous preload and warpage of the chassis. Is it possible that among other issues I have the wrong chassis for this car? I know that this car is a mishmash of parts so my assumption is that this was an Ascot chassis or something else that was a bit longer.

My Vindicator chassis is exactly 14" long if that helps ... I'm fairly certain that the Desperado and the Vindicator shared the same chassis ... I'm only saying that because I turned my Desperado into a Vindicator no problems at all..hope this helps

Thanks for the information and the photos. I am very perplexed now. :? I measured my chassis and it comes in at just under 14 inches. Hmmm.

I think I can see at least part of the reason why mine fits ... I made my shock tower out of a piece of alloy I had sitting around ..it appears thicker than the one you are using..

scampi, it seems to me that your down tubes have been bent down, and the ends kicked back up. thus, making the down tubes too short. hard to tell, but that's how it looks to me.

as for your rear camber rods, drill a hole down lower on the hub carrier closer to the hub. then you can trim off the top (or leave it as is). this will allow you to raise the inner rod to help reduce the neg. camber issues and not hit the rear bumper.

the rear shocks should be the .71's.
