Only 1 of the 5 local Walmart stores have the Blue as a stocking part #. I cannot find the Annodized Orange anywhere.

In any case, due to the level of polish required on the aluminum for the visual effect through the paint to be right, the enamal is "touchy" as far as it sticking properly. Somewhat fragile and I dont recommend it. Using the XMetals on my parts was a "last ditch" effort to save my chassis, and it is a shelfer that worked out. However, anytime I move my car around I have to be realllllly careful not to scratch it.

Can you throw a clear coat on it?

Probably. I was concerned about having an effect of "laying it on thick" similar to what powdercoating would look like. So far its been doing great.

you'd be surprised how hard that paint will become in 30 days on it's own

I dont have front tires/wheels just yet, and the transmission has yet to be installed.. Here are a few shots from the picnic area at my dealership. For temporary protection of the front end, I am using CE 3-piece wheels and TQ71 tires. ( New/never ran )

I thought the washers under the allen-button screws on the nose braces was a cool touch. The painted wheel spinners was a detail item from the original owner. I decided to stage the steering servo mounts in the same "add-on" holes that the original owner created. That detail and the reuse of the CRP nerf bars maintains the modifcation heritage of the first owner and I am satisfied.

I am really happy that I was able to reuse almost all the original pieces. Only the bulkhead (correct long wing tube) the body mounts, the trans brace, the sway bar links and one of the bar link balls were replaced. (the sway bar, and one link ball are original, and the bend was done by the original owner). The original bulkhead was cut for a large servo. I felt it took something away from the car, so it stays in the box. :) Enjoy!

Special thanks to Brandon G, Romulus-10, and RC10resto for help with the pieces.

Thank you.

The chassis was a labor of love. I am going to call the Social Security office and request an ID number so I can officially "adopt it".

:) :) :)

Nice resto, I like the blue chassis. If you want to call it " factory team" though, don't forget the blue TI turnbuckles, the teflon coated threaded shocks, and the CF battery brace(s) and shock towers. Also MIP cvd's would be nice.... I would advocate for the dying black of the white nylon, but I'm just a young punk who has no respect for authenticity whatsoever , haha.

I guess there are just several ways of interpreting the anachronism " factory team 6 gears".

*agreed

I guess it shouldnt be called a "Factory Team" car. It should be called "I like blue and the orignal chassis was scratched car"

Back from Hiatus..

I have decided to completely change my direction on this car.

Rather than invest in a new project from scratch, I will continue to develop my "One RC10"

I am going to pull the chassis back apart and have the Noseplate/Chassis/engine plate powdercoated in blue so they all match. I may end up using my NIP correct gold engine plate to keep with the idea that AE didnt make a blue engine plate, but I have not decided just yet.

Since the last set of photos were taken, I have picked up a set of correct front jellybean wheels and 4 groove "Team Associated" tires from RC10Resto.

..........

It will no longer be a "six gear" build.

I am going to install the nearly mint appearing MIP SP1 trans I have, and install an A&L power clutch. The white plastic on the original trans is just all wrong for the "whitening process" that worked out so well for the rest of the car.
I am going to leave the "built once, still has the double sided tape on it" original six gear transmission in the box inside a ziplock bag.

I was looking close at the donor car that the MIP trans came from... I cant quite figure out if they are the MIP axles or the stock ones... Also I am going to be in need of a set of outdrives for the MIP SP1 as the originals are quite notched. I dont need them to be NIP as I am just going to install them.

This car will still remain a shelfer...

Pictures to follow soon.

Nice build - Just looked it up. Love the color of the chassis, I like being different and not having my vehicles- R/C cars look like the factory made them. I always dyed all the nylon black on all my AE cars, before AE started making the parts black.

OT - my DD is a 99 F-250 Power Stroke when I can afford the Fuel......
Old is more FUN

Team A&L know it all - really :)
