after you get the scan pm ultrahive on here he did some Jrx2 ones for me that are a lot better than the originals. real nice guy to.Brent J wrote:@ Jamin,
Hmmmm those sticker sheets must be worth a fortune![]()
If you can get a high-res pic of those sheets that would be appreciated! I suspect getting a repro one off sticker sheet must be expensive!!
Re: losi xxcr KE re-build
Bearickter,
Thanks - i recevied the xxcrke shell late last week (Post probbly slowed significantly due to the Christmas traffic).
Shell looks great, cant wait to get some paint and decals onto it!

What era correct servo??
Does anyone have a suggestion for a suitable era correct servo?
For a radio, i still have my old Hitec Lynx 3D system, with a 75mhz Synth module and receiver..
Undecided on the servo

Re: losi xxcr KE re-build
Hi Brent. How did you get on with the stickers? Im desperately looking for some as well. If you do get some made up put me down for some as well. Thought i found some on a french rc website but it seems they were wrongly listed!
So close yet really so far......

Re: losi xxcr KE re-build
Some progress has been made, albeit very slow progress. Unfortunately my "allowed" RC time is often consumed by racing or wrenching my race cars so i dont get a lot of time for restorations of my older gear!! I have a few in the back log list! Jrx2 is one of them
Most of the chassis is back together now. With the exception of the new bulkhead, and gear cover (used) the parts are from the original kit. The diff came up very smooth and had little use.
All the graphite parts had little to no marks on them with the exception of the bumper and marks on some of the nuts (wheel nuts, shock nuts etc).
I used the same motor mount, it is probably in the worst condition of the car with a few small gouges and scratches. I have not decided what i want to do. I am not sure if any of the local anodise’ers can match the colour. I had through about polishing it back to bare alloy with a brushed look... but that would be an evil thing to do to a Kinwald Blue item
All the bearings have cleaned up well and freed up with some alcohol and then some machine oil. The only bearings that have not survived are the bellcrank bearings which I will have to buy some new ones.
The motor and esc are both used, but the motor has very little use and no marks on it. The esc is clean with the exception of the receiver wires that have some old adhesive on it. I will un-twist them and try and remove whatever it is.
The repro body shell and wing arrived however I don’t think it is the correct wing… I also scored (at a price!) some NIP Kinwald stickers. I have to build the courage to actually use them when I get the body painted!
Next will be the dampers and springs so I can bolt on the new wheels and tires and get it rolling!
Id like to find an era correct servo and receiver for it – have only searched a little, but have not come up with anything yet.
Can anyone remember if we were running NimH back then or the last of the Nicd’s??

I was luck enough to get some NIP stickers.... i wasnt too successful with the printers around here in getting reproductions sorry. About the only thing i may be able to do is get a hi-res scan, but i am not sure if my scanner at work will have the quality needed...?

Re: losi xxcr KE re-build
Well - it has been an exceptionally long time since i posted on this thread!
Work on the car has moved forward - well laterally then forward! I decided to move away from a genuine box art restoration and move toward building the car up for a recent indoor vintage spec class race meeting.
I removed the older period brushed esc and motor and upgraded to the spec class gear with a Novak esc and 17.5t Ballistic. Tires were also changed to something more appropriate in teh Shuey yellow mini pins and staggered ribs.
As the LIPO packs are wider than the old NiMH cells, and the car is essentially underwight with Shorties, i fitted an old brass Manutech Lipo adapter to the chassis and after some trimming got the car within 5g of legal weight (1500g)! The only mod i had to make was a fairly simple carbon battery strap since the lipo sits a bit higher than the old cells.
On first test though, i managed to clip the wall in my garage which basically broke the Unobtanium black front bulkhead
I decided against cutting up my pristine xxcr KE decal sheet, and went for some repro xx stickers that are nice and retro!
I had a white one on hand that is in the buggy now., however i will try to find a genuine black one to fit at a later stage.
In the pics below i was running the old Novak Polaris AM receiver, but did upgrade to my Spektrum radio on the day due to glitching and interfearance.
The car was great to drive after some set-up changes on the high grip carpet. I managed 2nd place overall for the day without any casualties!

Wow that looks great! Love that bodyshell paint - blobs & chequers are very late 90s! Did you paint it?
Great to see another Losi taking to the track too.... i'm planning on getting mine recommissioned (having rebuilt & raced it for a season in 2012) in readiness for this years Iconic Revival meeting - going old-skool brushed motor this time

Wow.. that is a nice xx there.. I just went through the whole thread when this popped up.. I'm thinking of picking one of these up myself in the near future... If you are going to run this you can pick up some repro bulkheads made by oldrc.com.. love the paint job and I am not a blob kinda guy.. This may change that..

Nice job, love the paint!! Shows how far we think we've came in the last 20 years when a capable car in the hands of a capable driver can place in the top with new cars
Sleeps with a night light on, not because he's scared of the dark but because the dark is scared of him...........stay thirsty my friends
