Re: Kyosho Ultima find.
Love it!
One of the first "race car" RC cars I was exposed to was my uncles Ultima with a modified motor.
Of course he said the RC10s gave him a fit racing.
It made my Traxxas Cat look like a toy!

Re: Kyosho Ultima find.
Sooo, speaking of roll cage mounts, would it originally not have come with any, and the (small) body just held the ends? Or was there another means of attachment? Did it not really come with any mounts for the forward part of the roll cage?
It looks really cool as is, but I do have a re-pop body I'd eventually like to put on.

just the body mount post up front and the side roll bars slid into a 90 degree tab of sorts that stuck out the sides of the body and the rear roll bar mount to the motor plate are all that mount the body. The front part of roll cage that goes into dash was held in place by bushings and e clips.

Re: Kyosho Ultima find.
Ok. I need to find some good pics then to see what I'm missing for the side mounts. Hard to see, since the majority of the pics have the body on, which covers up the mounts.
I think for my uses, since I likely won't drive this car, I'll probably just paint up and decal the body, drill the correct holes, and just set the roll cage in place. Honestly though, I kinda like the car without the body/driver, looks a little meaner.

Re: Kyosho Ultima find.
*Finally* finished the restoration of the old Ultima. Figured maybe someone would want to see it.
I kept the CRP wheels, because I really don't like the "1984 Corvette" stock wheels. Plus, I think it looks better with these regardless of my taste.

Re: Kyosho Ultima find.
you could put the new Tamiya holiday buggy wheels and tires on the car they will fit nicely, you just need 4x10 mm front wheel bearings so they will fit the Kyosho front axle I used a set on my modified Scorpion I got the set of 4 wheels and tires for $30.00 on E-bay

Re: Kyosho Ultima find.
What is the purpose of the roll cage mounting? Is it so the car can be run without the rest of the body?

I assume that's the reason. I kinda liked it without the body.

I dislike those red shocks very much. That's probably why I don't have the urge to go out and buy any of the re-releases from Kyosho. They just seem like cheap toy shocks to me.

Re: Kyosho Ultima find.
Great looking buggy! I recently built my first Ultima also and I really enjoyed working with a car that was designed so different from the other buggies I had built. I'm with you on the stock wheels---I never liked them either. I like the wheels you have there now.
