Kyosho Optima Mid Shed Find

Post by Carknowledge101 »

I got this rig today from a guy that said he bought it new when it came out. It has an upgraded chassis, aluminum steering bell crank, and proline wheels. I don’t know much about it so anything helps.

I do know that the ESC is a Novak 1. Any help on the specs would be helpful.

The wheels on the truck are some I had laying around. The green painted ones next to it were on it when I bought it.

The first pic is what it looked like when I got it. The rest are after it had been cleaned, still not done yet

This is the old Novak page via the wayback machine, but if it doesn’t work for you here is a snip of it as well

Nice find! If you were to sell it, let me know, I would be interested. Thanks.

Cool. I’d love to find one too.

What’s the large heat sink for? Can’t tell if it’s connected to the esc or the motor.
That chasis would look great with those Sanyo saddle pack batteries. (And without the truck wheels  )

Don't think I going to sell it, at least not for a while. I'm going to try and build it to be a shelf queen or a mild on-road racer. I have been looking at parts and they are pretty spendy but thankfully I haven't found anything missing, considering how cheap I got it.

Some qustions I still have are what bodies will fit besides the original. I know team bluegroove makes a bunch of bodies and they are pretty cheap. But are they any good? And will a RC10, Bandit, or other buggies fit?

I would also like to know if any parts from the rear motored optima will fit. Like these for instance - https://www.hobbytown.com/kyosho-optima-suspension-arm-kyoot201/p507541. Or any other parts...

BTW it does have a Twisters motor in it. I don't know anything about it besides the fact that it needs to be cleaned, like all 30+ year old stuff

I love that I got it first :P. I'm undecided on the truck wheels and as for batteries I might try 2 lipos with a parallel connector for longer run time, only if the esc can handle the volts.

My favorite body for the SWB Mid is this one, I bought this from Team BlueGroove. I like how the sides are wing-like and the roof-line has a little spoiler that would seem to help airflow up over the wing. I cut a hole for air intake in the windshield and another exit hole at the top rear end of the roof, behind that spoiler. I reversed the installation of the LiteSink heatsink so it was inboard instead of outboard, so air comes in through the windshield and passes right over the heatsink. Not sure if that makes any cooling difference, but logically, it should. I also like that it's different from the usual Mid body.

I would also like to know what wheels would best on it BESIDES the stock ones. And tires that fit them.

Thanks. I would also like to know that parts between the Optima Mid and Optima rear are the same or can still be used.

The rear arms and outer parts--uprights and axle shafts--are about all that's common between an Optima and a Mid rear end.
