Re: TURBO ULTIMA - My 1st non RC10 restore.
I have the kit, or just the kingpin/hubs/spindles on my rc10. It's been years, and the last I ran the car, it was those spindles, wide arms up from from a traxxas bullet(more or less, the same as the associated wide arm, few mm difference), and hough trailing arms. they definitely seemed to make the car scrub less with some 3 rib front tires(probably prolines?) the benefit was supposedly that the centerline of the tire contact patch and kingpin axis line up, preventing wasted energy in tire scrub through directional changes.

Re: TURBO ULTIMA - My 1st non RC10 restore.
You can’t see it very well on the original photos but the tires on this car where badly cracked and I could not stand it. Decided to boil and remove them today and this is the result.
WARNING: Boiling the Silver wheels of the Turbo Ultima will remove some of the silver on them.
I was planning to give them a light coat of paint anyway so it is ok. Any recommendations on this are welcome. I got some ideas on tires for the rear but no idea for the front. They don’t have to be original Kyosho, any ideas?

Hi, for the paint wheel:
1/ degrease your wheel.
2/ 1 coat of adhesive paint (paint for plastic bumper real car).
3/ degrease again the adhesive coat.
4/ 2 to 3 light coat of the final paint (real car body paint).
5/ You can put a coat of varnish , like you want.
Don't put paint on the lips where you glue the tires.
And for the front tires Scorpion, Tomahawk maybe Raider car...look well...

Has anyone ever been able to get that INSANE front wheel/ring thingy to work properly with out busting a thumb or having to install the tire over and over again?

Thanks guys. Thanks PRP, do you think I should keep them the same color? I was thinking they might look cool on a dark gray instead of silver.
RichieRich - i will let you know when i re-install these.

Re: TURBO ULTIMA - My 1st non RC10 restore.
Started putting this together today, and everything fits very nice.
I am prepping the wheels to paint them white but I need to get some tires. No idea where to buy some 1.9 front ribs yet and I need to decide on the shell.
Hope to get the roller finish before the end of the week (- tires).

Re: TURBO ULTIMA - My 1st non RC10 restore.
Some progress from tonight. I test fitted the radio plate and, IMO, it looks good.
I gave the wheels 3 cotes of white paint and they are looking nice, I like them a lot more than any other color.
This weekend I will give them a fine sanding and 2 more cotes of paint an 3 more of clear.
I am working on getting some new rubber for the wheels and maybe some turnbuckles, but I’m thinking of using the original tie rods (they are in good shape) with some big brute heavy duty ball ends that I have.

Looks AWESOME man!!!! I can't wait to finish mine, I just started racing this season for my first time ever so its taking some of my time and money. I'm looking forward to updates!!! Are you planning on mounting your battery lengthwise with the car or stock confuguration? I think I am going stock on mine for now.

Yep, I can’t wait to finish this one. I haven’t race in a long time but can’t wait to get back. I will probable have the battery the standard way but after the roller is done I will work on making some strap brackets.
I will probable be getting tires next week and hopefully have the roller done and start working on a body.

Re: TURBO ULTIMA - My 1st non RC10 restore.
Build this last night. After having a hard time making the steering set up work smoothly I finally got it. Had to make some spacers and add some thread lock and it is working.
I hope to get some rubbers this next week and I’ll take some nicer pics in the sun.
This car will probable sit in the shelf for a bit because I want to get another project going now.
Next I will probable come up with a battery strap thing to hold the battery sideways (the standard way)
and add the antenna holder and the body later on.

Re: TURBO ULTIMA - My 1st non RC10 restore.
OK, update time. Got the original wheels painted and they look like new. On these pics they look a bit overly white so I will take better photos tomorrow. I also received some new rubber Schumacher mini pin stile (old CRP tires), thanks to the members that help me find them.
The car is looking really nice now but I still need to decide what body to cap it with and find it. I am also getting some HPI SS wheels soon and will take some pics with them. I think the larger wheels look nice on the Ultima.
There is something about the Ultima that is very appealing but this car does not feel as solid as my RC10s . It may be all the metal bushing on the shocks and I may need some new rear hub carriers. It continues to be a very cool car and I like it a lot .
I am placing this car on the shelf for some time until I finish some other project I am anxious to start .
