Re: - A&L trailing arms and "World's 91" front end

Post by Asso_man! »

I'm slowly preparing my runner for a 6 hours enduro race that will take place in two weeks. In the mean time I've been able to find a nice used ComCom chassis (see pics), I upgraded the tranny with a B4 top shaft and Trinty light flywheels. I also made a quick-release device for the battery and the front plate has been cut-down to push the front battery cup forward in order to accept LiPo packs. Spektrum receiver is already installed as well as a Mamba 4600 brushless motor. ESC has yet to be fitted and will be Mamba too. I'm waiting for the postman to come with B4 CVD's, RPM rear carriers and bearings and last but not least Fibre Lyte RC10T rear shock tower and RPM front shock tower 8) . Then I'll be able to mod the rear end with long RPM rear arms and use B4 rear wheels. I'll update this thread with pics as soon as I'll get the parts and after the race with tons of action pics, results, impressions, stay tuned guys...

seems that many people love to use the RC10T rear shock tower instead of the original one.........any secret in it ??.....

Hey Asso_man!

I read that part a couple of times. Now I think I get it you only ordered the B4 CVD axles, NOT the whole universal, right?

Otherwise it wouldn't fit.

After hours and hours of trials and errors, I finally managed to get the rear end revamping work! Wooh hoo! Here's what I ended up with:

- RC10T rear hubs
- stock B4 CVD's (with internal spacers)
- unflanged bearing on the inside and flanged bearing on the outside of the hubs
- sligthly dremelled outer hole on the RPM arms to clear the rims
- RC10 Team Car rear shocks with outside spacers (for the moment 2 shock pistons and an o-ring on each shock) to limit the up travel
- RC10T rear shock tower, using the upper/inside hole

I did a 20 minutes test run and there was no problem at all, the car handled great! Now the truth will come out after the 6 hours enduro race next Sunday, I really hope we will win with the good old tub!

I'll take tons of action pictures and will post them here with the results and possible problems (crossing fingers).

Time for some pictures now 8)

I like those arms!
Maybe something to consider when mikedealers tuber chassis will finally reach my door.
I already have tamiya hubs and u-j's to go on the tuber; with 12 mm hexes and ZX5 wheels, but I don't like the stock rc10 arms so much

Goodluck assoman!
You're not gonna use a gearcover for the enduro?
I know it's more work to remove if anything goes wrong, but I'd expect more to go wrong without one

Thanks Ed, those RPM arms are totally bullet-proof, they twist but never break! When dremelling them yesterday, I expected to have chips flying all around the room, but instead of this, the plastic simply kinda of melted, amazing!

And yes, there will be a gear cover on there, I just forgot to put it back

nope these are their vintage counterparts, same dimensions, but the KLEIN arms have more shock positions and are readily available.

Great looking ride, Asso_man! Nice work. That thing looks like it's ready to kick some tail on the track. Good luck on Sunday.

I'm very glad to see you found a combination that works for you. These hybrid builds put up a good fight, don't they?

I know what you mean about machining those arms - the Dynotech/Klein arms are the same way. Note to self: don't touch the molten Delrin...

yeah, tell me about it! one time i was cutting some with a dremel and the molten stuff flew up and hit my cheek, just under my glasses. hot stuff alright, almost made me drop the dremel while it was running.
