No one can make it more hybrid than this, well, may be except by adding a plane cockpit and wings

That's just a cool little runner! Why did you paint the shell on the outside, just reusing an old body?

Thanks guys
I'll try to get pics of it in action at the race. Maybe David can give it a spin between heats so I can take them.
I really like to take the action shots myself, but that's a bit hard if you're only allowed to drive during the heats.

I painted the oustide because the can of yellow I had left, turned out to be empty and started spluttering on the inside.
Up-close it really looks a bit ratty.
I brushed the paint further up with a hard toothbrush: just before it had dried completely. As it wasn't applied all at the same time and in different thickness some areas reacted different from others.
Mad-Max accidental
Luckily I found that sticker set to go with it. The silver looks a bit like a battered beer barrel so the stickers really fit the subject

That's great Ed, I can't wait to be on Sunday and finally see of your creations on the track. Sure I'll give it a spin while you take some shots! I'll most probably run an almost stock RC10 Team Car :D but the car is far from being ready, I'll post some pics when done 8)

woooow, did it rain the morning of the race :x

Had everything packed already from the evening before, so stuffed it in the car anyway and off I was to pick up Asso-man.

about 40 minutes later, and more rain, we arrived at the track to find a 10-some drivers hiding under tents and looking at each-other to see who was REALLY going to put their car out in the wetness. Brave hearts though; I remember in the last years of our club this type of weather would have kept everyone home simply.

The track was grass, fresh cut and wet (did I say that before?), very large and very flat at first sight. Later on it revealed not to be so flat under the green surface, but at least there were no lethal jumps threatening the vintage stuff me and Asso-man brought.
Another vintage lover had an ultima gen2 along, but he was gone before I realised and I got no pic of his car, nor did it touch the grass as far as I know.

Here's our cars before the first heat.

Asso-man's

Ofcourse we had very different cars; each with our own touch.
Asso-man wanted a back-to-the-roots car with only a minimal update and modern electronics. While I went with 2 of my mix-a-lot cars and old electronic crap. More on that in aminute, first a groupshot of cars and owners:
Image

and under the hoods:

After breakfast rolls and coffe, we finally took of for the first heat. There were 3 series: 2wd , 4wd and beginners (mostly stadium trucks). 2 wd was up first, us, and it was still raining; not badly but enough to worry abit about the transmitters.

Can't say much on how asso-man did, but for me it went, well , slow would be an understatement. I wasn't sure why; couldn't be the slipper or ball-diff (this car doesn't have either, yet) but I did notice it would get completely stuck on the higer grass on the iseds of the track. So after a round of marshalling-in-the-rain for the 'beginners' I took the car for some wrenching: increase the ride-height and a change of rear tires.
It wasn't so pleasant to work on at that moment I must admit:
Image

where did this lawn-mower come from?
Image

The inside wasn't too bad: the grass had built up against the electronics and most never reached the back with the open spur.
Image

In the meanwhile Asso-man was fanatically cleaning his car back to shelf standards     just teasing you buddy.

With the next heat come and gone I learned that A: my transmitter batteries were badly charged the night before, and B: I had missed on the analysis; my car was still turtling around the track. Asso-man did a lot better: I believe he made this heat a winner, or it may have been the next one???

As it now had stopped raining I decide to put the ghost-rider on the track for the next heat. Out with the stock moter from the tontonland meets and in with a 5euro 17double I gott offered by a club member.

With its trailing arms and limited travel the car was hopping like a rabbit at times, but at least it went at a nicer pace and I had my first satisfactory run of the day. The weather had started clearing up pretty much and the car didn't even need a clean when it got back home.

For the afternoon I decided to put the 17 double in the lawn-mower and it started going better now. Yet, I continued to have things working against me: struggled with finding the proper tire combination,a drive-cup came off the differential outdrive shaft, ESC started acting funny. In the final heat I was able to hold Asso-man behind me, till he easily passed me early in the last round; which I barely managed to complete as the partly charged battery had run out of juice. Asso-man claimed he had a bad run on that, but I was still happy to feel at least like I'd made some progress over the day :)

Lesson learned:
- my custom 13 single with cobalt magnets is a dead bird
- my Novak 610 RV is ony good for stock 27 and 30 turn moters anymore, or maybe a street runner

Next weekend there's another run. Maybe I'll run my MX-4

Maybe you should add a receiver and servo to a Toro mower with rear bagger and have a go. :P

Well,
I broke the middle gear on the stinger transmission: eventhough it is steel, it wore down just in one events racing. Apparently the xle it runs on came loose a bit. Ofcourse I didn't have a spare and actually I already had plans to add a slipper.
So, I decided to do away with the original inners and put a belt drive in. With some creativity I pushed a yz-10 top shaft with slipper in it, and a lazers ball-diff with belt pulley. No idea what the belt is from originally; just one of the many I collected in all sizes.

Next up was a change of dress; really wanted to use the Bolink Funco of mrlexan.
And finally, to match the old-shool lok of the body: a baja champ spoiler and pro-line wheels for the ultima:

Hope to test it at the track in september
