A runner for my son

Post by greazy »

My son is is 5 and he is been helping me build my shelf projects, He loves taken stuff a part for me and cleaning parts. One day while he was helping me he said " when are gonna run this thing ? " I told him we wouldnt be running it as it was was a nice short arm RC10 for my shelf.

So I thought, with all the labor he has kicked in on my projects I owe him one he could run. I packed my project away I was working on and started a runner for him.

I bought a box of two junk parts cars at best off Ebay and went to work. I stripped the best of the two tubs and painted it with a hammercoat grey finish. Him and I dyed all the parts black including a cool set of HPI Star wheels that were white but rough. The stock shock towers and trans brace were finished with stick on carbon fiber. I painted up a new body and added some decals from my old stash and we were ready for electronics. I added some vintage futaba gear with a cobra 27t motor.

After a few test runs up and down the hallway and a quick photo shoot, I turned him loose outside today. He did well as he has been running a hopped up Mini T.

I will be adding a stock wing painted white once Tower gets them off back order.

Hopefully 20 years from now he will still have it, and be glad to remember the good memories of building it with his dad and owning a piece of rc history.

Great job there as a father and a co-builder. I love the paint job body and chassis, I know first hand how hard that is to do. I just co-built a runner for my grandson who's been here for 3 weeks and maybe I'll post pic's of his RC10 soon.

Very cool. He looks so proud.
If it isn't broke, I haven't driven it yet.

Nice car. Love the grey hammerite finish! Looks like your little 'un will enjoy some top times putting that through its paces.....
