Just bought an RC10L, need some help (New body and paint)

Post by Seabass »

Hey guys, I picked this car up at the Hobby shop for $40. It came with a busted body, a Nice Tekin Speed control, Futaba Servo and a junk battery, and a stock motor. The car is in really nice shape. I tore it down and dyed the nylon black, and put it back together. I have a World touring body coming in and some body posts. The purple shock is too long and I will need to find a stock shock for the car. I plan on taking this car out to a carpet track and having some fun once I get it done.

I have a lathe and mill here at the house and I am about to start turning some aluminum wheels for the car. I am having a big problem in finding foam tires. Can you guys point me in the right direction to buy some foam tires? Any help will be appreciated and when I start turing the wheels I will post a thread from start to finish on the wheels.

Enjoy the pics

Great, thanks for the link.

I forgot to aks earlier, but what do you use to glue the tires to the wheels? I never had a pan car so some of this is new to me. Thanks again.

Wow, thanks Bill. I will pm you shortly.

I just got a body in and finished painting it. I am getting the car ready for the track so I can't wait to see how it runs. Thanks for the heads up on the wheel and tire set. I am going to pick up some of the wheels and tires from RC4less. I have been looking at the BSR tires you mentioned as well. I missed a huge lot of wheels and tires on ebay a couple weeks ago that would have been awesome.

I am new to onroad cars so I will definately have some questions later.

Here are some pics of the new shell.

If you want associated still has some factory team RC10 & RC10T hardware that you can use to replace your rusted items, I can get you the PN later. Also look up the HPI Diffuser for the RC10L SS as you have it is HPI PN# 6000 you may be able to find one on Ebay, it incorporates a Protector for the spur gear and a neat kick up to deflect air. Depends on what you want to do. You may want to get a decent Tire truer to "True" your tires so you don't chunk them (when pieces of foam are ripped out). Your spur looks like on old HPI item, and the Green Machine is a period correct motor and really reliable. Your foam tires can be saved with some CA and a truer. Your servo looks to be installed crooked, it should be parallel to the steering linkage. Also this may be an older SS (due to the lower aluminum Pod plate) that had the Active strut installed afterwards. On the older front end we used to just run double sided tape under the servo and no mounts as there was no Active strut system at the time. Otherwise nice and clean. Chevron models make some 200mm GTP bodies like the old Porsche 962 and Jaguar XJR 12 if you like the old "Le Mans 24hr " look. Otherwise keep it clean and good luck!!!

Thanks for the sugestions. I have yet to install the electronics in the car so I have not gottena chance to take it for a spin. I have looked into tires and I am planning on buying some new tires for the car. The tires on the car look to be in pretty bad shape. Then again I am not quite sure what bad tires look like either. I am moving somewhat slow on this car right now becuase of funding.

Sorry it is Blade racing that offers the older style of GTP bodies . The picture attached is 203mm wide and of the Porsche 962 I am not sure the width of the Jag, Toyota or the Peugoet. But you may be able to contact them.

Their site is : http://blade-racing.com/bodyshells/index.html

You can find their bodies on E-bay every now and then. We used to run their F103 bodies on the old Tamiya F103LM-TRF chassis in europe.

Blade was what I was thinking. I've got the Jag, 905 and yota. I wasn't aware of the Porsche, but thanks.... something more to add to the list. :P
