MRC MT10 & Futaba FXT-10

Got this MRC MT10 from a friend a few years ago. I actually helped build and paint it back in '95. Hardly used, it has virtually no scratches on it just a little dust and some old, double sided, sticky foam used as servo tape or something. I took the tranny off for rebuilding. Not sure what to do with this one. Might make some kinda buggy hybrid conversion.






I abused this Futaba FXT-10 for a long time. Don't know the story behind the design but they seriously bit off the RC10. It came with gray shocks that were identical to the old Tamiya yellow ones that came on the Monster Beetle and others and the tires are Tamiya Super Grippers. Last I remember, the gearbox was stripped so I might see if I can use the chassis for something like a super basher.

That MRC-MT10-M was a great truck, it was the best and closest to a high performance truck that I could afford to get while in my teen years. actually got one for the X-mas of 95.

RCCA wrote an article on how to convert the 10m into a full blown racer, and they gave it really good reviews.

It was also marketed as an almost indestructible truck, they would demo it by dropping it from a 10 feet ladder onto the floor to prove it's toughness and durability....

The one you have there, looks to be in awesome condition, replace the diff thrust bearing, spring and nut, with an rc10 diff thrust bearing, nut and spring, the stock one will strip away easily, and you'll have massive diff slippage.

The shocks leak badly after it's been put through it paces a bit.

The arms, chassis, and other parts, are very very tough also...

Man, I should've pulled the trigger on a NIB kit on ebay when they had them...

Thanks for the info. I think I will add those RC10 parts to the diff. And you're right, it does seem like a tough, strong RC. These types of trucks really arent my thing so I think it may end up for sale/trade soon.

I didn't realize anyone else actually had one of these MT10's, LOL. I bought this one a year or so ago, it's essentially brand new with one scratch - looks like shelf wear rather than a run scratch to me. The rims are new but turning brown from contact with the tires, I think and the body is new but painted horribly and trimmed badly. I am going to try and strip it and repaint it. Anyone have a line on where to get a replacement? I think this will remain a shelfer since its so clean and unique, even if it's not particullarly valuable.

No idea for an original body, and those don't oook like stock tyres either, remind me of Tamiya ones.

Its actually just FXT or more specifically FXT stadium racer. The FX-10 was the Futaba buggy.

As far as i'm aware the FXT was manufactured by Tamiya for Futaba. Its loosely based on the Stadium Blitzer and was meant to compete with the other trucks of its day.

I vaguely remember a big name driver winning something with it to show how good it was. I could be wrong though.

Purpletimbo- nice thunder king. I just got a really nice thunder king with very little use on it. Box art paint, brand stadium truck body and wheels/tires also, along with a bag of parts. I can't wait to get this thing going. I wanted one so bad back in high school, and now I finally have one.

Huh? I didn't know there was a truck version of a Futaba FX-10.
Funny thing...the other day I was pinstriping a friend's hotrod, and there on the garage floor, was a complete FX-10. Maybe I should see if he'd sell it....

There isn't a truck version of the FX-10. Though CRP did sell a truck conversion kit for them. The FX-10 for the most part was just a re-badged Tamiya Striker.

Around the same time Futaba also came out with an aluminum tubbed, ball diffed stadium truck called the FXT as seen in this thread. It sported a Mazda cab plus body. Seems like they were going for an RC10T fighter.

Good to see some futaba love, the fx-10 is what started it for me. I always wanted a fxt, picked one up recently, but wish I could find a nice body and decal set. I thought the truck looked so sweet in the magazine adds. It is kind of an odd truck, that not really many people recognize without the body on it.

Over the past few months I picked up three MT-10M's and some spare parts off ebay in the hopes of making one good MT-10M (basher) and one MT-10S (runner/racer). Last weekend I completed the MT-10M and took it out for a test run. The slipper clutch is either mis-adjusted or the rulon disc is worn out, because it slips quite badly, (I need to research further). And, I need to remove a tooth from the pinion (15T to 14T, because after the run the motor was a little warmer then I prefer). Other than those two issues, it runs great.
I was never really into MRC when the MT's were new, but I was missing my Shumacher Shotgun from years ago and I found this to be a suitable substitute to bash when I want to drive but not be too serious.

Some of the upgrades are;
Full bearings (Boca econo)
Pro-Line Masher 2000 tires
Original Tekin Rebel ESC
Trinity D6 11x1 motor
Associated diff nut and thrust bearing

Both mine were slipping quite badly when they arrived, but tightened up easy enough, I reckon they slip in storage
