Question about Tamiya Juggernaut

Post by a01butal »

Does anybody know what the difference is between the Tamiya Juggernaut and Juggernaut II. I've looked at the boxes and for the life of me can't see any real difference, must be something.

The stickers and body color?
The important difference is the internals on the axles. The originals apparently would self destruct rather quickly.

Redesigned axle tops. The originals grenaded after only a few runs

Body color on this one is white and I have sticker sets for both "II" and " ".

A few runs should tell you.

If I recall if you had a Jugg 1 you could get replacement axles, so it may be tough to tell them apart by mechanicals.

Is there a raised area for the receiver on your chassis?

Jugg 2 had redesigned front axle internals- Tamiya added extra bearing supports to the drive pinions and carriers. Jugg 1 owners could get the upgrade kit from Tamiya. I remember ordering a Jugg 1 and being told a week later they had been discontinued. Too bad, they are a collectors item now.

Jeff you are still the man but both Juggernauts have side by side inboard motors, this was in comparison with the Clod not the Juggs I + II, I got impatient and didn't read all the way through, my mistake.

Still not sure which I have, whatever it's probably upgraded to correct the problems but this is strange you can't easily identify which is which.

Jugg 1 manual page 19 shows the chassis part where the battery lays and the rx mounts. In the Jugg2 the rx area is raised (page 21)-- the same spot looks flat on the Jugg1. That is probably the easiest way to tell them apart. The boxart colors were different, but the body was the same. The decal sheet changed.
Either way... cool truck for a Ford.

Jugg2 axles had a "2000" stamped into the housing to tell the difference. I believe there was also an external heatsink added to the transmission. Unless a Jugg had the later drivetrain installed you might be able to tell the difference by this.

Bingo. Look for the date stamp. Jugg 1's have no stamp. TXT's were beefed up further and I believe they are stamped 2001 or 2002, whichever year they came out. The axles are all you have to worry about. If you've got Jugg 1 axles, you can easily convert your truck to TXT specs and it will be nearly indestructible.
