PAVIDIS-KISS IT OR SHOOT IT?

Post by FasterLouder »

Well,my Yokomo YZ-10 Pavidis arrived and she's a bit rougher that I hoped for.
The chassis has been drilled in two places to secure the undertray (between the cell cutouts),the front upright is broken (which I knew) ,the wing has been drilled out, there are three black rims and one pink rim...But,the big downer is that someone took a dremel to the suspension arms and hogged them out, presumably to lighten them.
I already bought a set of NIP white Pavidis ridged rims for it,too. :(
So,I'd need 4 arms,the correct carbon upper chassis,battery plates and mounts,Associated shocks,the upright and a wing...And a repro body and decal set.

The bulkheads, belts, front one way and upper arms are all real nice.
The body isn't that bad,but not nice enough for a shelfer.

What do you guys reckon, should I save this rare car or cut my losses, clean it up the best I can and sell it for someone to part out or restore?

It'll cost a bit to make good and there's a Turbo Optima Mid I want to buy and restore, too.

Here are some photos...

And,yes that is bondo on the chassis...A novel way to mount a steering servo, don'tchya think?
The lower chassis I know would clean up nice...The damage is real minor (just two small holes) and with a few drops of CA,you'd be hard pushed to know they were there.

WHAT TO DO???!!! :?

Are you sure the arms are dremmeled and not the '97 version lightened arms?

As for the restore I think you are better off looking for a nicer pavadis - they do crop up. Perhaps keep current for spares?

Ooooh yeah, the arms have been drilled or dremeled out.
Real dissapointing..I can get a NIP set for US$50.
I just wanted a YZ-10.
I guess I'll strip it down and clean it up....Then what-I do not know.

Reminds me of a Pavadis i bough a couple of years back for $100 from Austria, chassis was snapped and glued and the whole thing was falling apart - absolutely gutted, looked alright in pictures though

I finally got one from ebay which came with a works '93 as well, it was great condition but missing a couple of parts which I have now accepted i will probably never find unless i buy another complete car :!:

Yeah,I guess so.
I stripped it down last night and it's not as bad as I thought it was.
I might as well just bite the bullet and restore it.
Anyone got a front upright?

Well,I bit the bullet and decided to save this car.
I'm waiting for the new arms, wheels and uprights to arrive.
I stripped it,repaired the chassis, gave it a polish (even got the bondo off!),rebuilt the diffs and the steering rack and she ain't lookin' half bad.
Currently replacing the hardware store fasteners with some quality ones.

I'm wondering if this is a Pavidis, like I was told...Reading the Yokomo Timeline thread,it says the Pavidis didn't have a slipper clutch-mine does.
It's also got a fibreglass upper chassis and had solid arms,a Pavidis body and a front one way.
What do you guys think-Pavidis or plain old YZ-10?

Here are some photos of how far I've got...

Definitely Pavidis, the chassis, shock towers and rear CF turnbuckle mount are the main give away. Also had front one way but that is built into the spur gear mount not the front diff.

Still need to hunt down the front upright for you (if I have one)!

COOL!
Thanks for that,man.That's good news!
I bought a small lot of YZ-10 parts and it included a pair of NIP front uprights, thanks anyway.
I have no idea where to find a carbon upper deck,I could make one,I guess?
The fibreglass one I have even has the correct three 'teardrop' cutouts...Hmmmm.

The Carbon fibre upper deck is quite rare, Fibre lyte make upper decks but they are a different weave. The fibre glass one came from the standard yz-10 works '95. I may be able to do some sort of trade with a carbon top deck I have, I am in the middle of a standard works '95 rebuild and I need the natural top deck as I only have the CF version - but my parts are all over the place so I would have to check. i will keep you posted :)
