T-MAXX TROUBLE SHOOT HELP.
I got a maxx in today. The truck will not kick into forward untill it's at a high rpm. The truck has new spur, slipper pegs, and clutch shoes. I adjusted the slipper nut from tight to loose with no change. Dude said he messed with the 2nd speed adjustment. I don't think the second speed adjustment would have anything to do with it but not sure. Any suggestions before I take the trans apart?

Re: T-MAXX TROUBLE SHOOT HELP.
if he messed with the set screws on the low to high gears more than likely I'd start there. If its going into forward at all that pretty much means tranny is fine. From my experience its all or nothing with those trannys. I've got a 2.5 tmaxx with no reverse but if you lift it off the ground and hit reverse it will start to turn the wheels backwards but then it starts slipping since I'm sure there are stripped gears in there. Have had 2 do this and one do the same thing you got going on. The setting on those 2 speeds can be rather finicky if someone not knowing what they are doing gets in there and starts cranking down screws...

Sounds like your first great is not working, and its not engaging until second great kicks in. Strange problem. I really can't think of why it would that unless you have a stripped gear. I am also wrenching on my maxx tonight, snapped the front of the output shaft.

Re: T-MAXX TROUBLE SHOOT HELP.
I do some Cl. I had a guy call me up who bought a few gallons of nitro fuel from me last summer asking me if I would fix it for him. I asked him what the problem was and what he did to it. He said he changed the spur and put new pegs in. I asked him the question I ask all that I think are inexperienced or noobs. Did you adjust the carb? I got the answer I thought I would. No, "I have never adjusted the carb." I had the same thought i'm sure all of us savy rc inthusiests have all had, "Oh boy". I DONT GET IT. HOW DO PEOPLE RUN THESE TRUCKS AND NOT TUNE THEM? HOW DO THEY NOT BLOW UP? EVERY ONE I GET IS ALWAYS A PAIN IN THE TO GET RUNNING. Sorry, kind of lost it there. Anyways, the first thing I thought was change the clutch shoes. That wasn't it. He must of messed with the second speed screw before realizing the pegs were spent. It's got to be the screw. I only started the truck and checked out what was going on up here in the hobby room. I didn't want to try it outside because all the neighbors were out and it was close to dark. Don't need to be running people over in the dark with a 10 pound truck that goes 40 mph, especially one with problems. Anyways, The truck went into gear and moved but just at the high rpm. Just kind of jerked into gear and went. I was hoping it was the screw. I just don't feel like taking the trans apart and opening that can of worms if it's not nessasary.
I have rebuilt a couple dozen maxx trucks but have never come across this problem. I'm going to fix it tomorrow, get it out of here, and will update you on what it was. I have been staying away from these trucks because the rebuilds take to much time, there is always a problem at the end, and they don't pay for the amount of time I have in them. When I rebuild them, I try to make them as original as possible while stealing all the aftermarket parts. I had a pretty modded out Maxx that I had built up. I got another truck that was built up the same way. I tore both the trucks apart to make one super badd Maxx and sold the other hopup parts. The rebuild has been sitting for 6 months because I dread working on it. I shouldn't of answered the phone.
Everything is chill one minute and next thing I know another Maxx snuck in my hobby room. Oh well, it's all good. Maybe it will motovate me to get the Super-Badd-Maxx together and running. I did just get in an almost new 3.3 last week for almost nothing. Hey, I like that name. Thanks klavy69.

Re: T-MAXX TROUBLE SHOOT HELP.
Shouldn't this version have a grey trans or is that just the 3.3? Oh brother, here we go.

Re: T-MAXX TROUBLE SHOOT HELP.
the 3.3 was the grey tranny iirc. That should be the tranny for the 2.5 which is what I'm guessing you got there. missing pegs and scorched rings won't help
you missin screws outta the tranny? thinkin you might be in for more of a challenge than just a setscrew if thats the case

Re: T-MAXX TROUBLE SHOOT HELP.
Alright. I have it apart. all the gears look good. Both the gold and black clutches look good, well better than I thought they were going to. The main bunch of gears is where the set screw is. The first big gear spins freely both ways. The second gear sounds like a maraca. It's a little loose but only spins one way. WhenI look in the hole on the first gear where the set screw is, I see 2 set screws. 1 is for the adjustmentand I'm assuming the other is holding thegear to the shaft. Right?

Re: T-MAXX TROUBLE SHOOT HELP.
I got the gears off the shaft. When I took the second speed clutch out, there looks to be black grease under it. under that I can see a one way bearing that goes from the first gear to the shaft. I bet the problem is that grease got on the one way bearing and the bearing doesn't grab the shaft until it gets to a high rpm. I also found a teflon washer floating around in the case. Yikes! At this point I think I am going to cheat and just put another set of gears, what you see in the pic, from another trans in it.

Re: T-MAXX TROUBLE SHOOT HELP.
The grease is probably from the one way bearing, it is supposed to be lubed. That doesn't mean that isn't the problem. I just got mine back together. My one way was pretty crunchy. I cleaned it good and re-lubed it. A crunchy one way could explain the morroca sound you mentioned.

Re: T-MAXX TROUBLE SHOOT HELP.
Well I am a cheater. I just switched out the set of gears. truck runs pretty good. It stalls here and there but it is because of the fuel. Dude didn't get the fuel from me last summer. He got it from me 2 summers ago. The fuel is Oddonnel 20. It's not even yellow anymore, it's almost brown. I'm going to tell him to burn up the fuel, buy some traxxas 20, and bring it back for a retune. Wait, did I just say bring it back?
also, I knew it would happen. Now that I drove the Maxx, I have the itch to build mine. Thanks for your input guys.
Here are most of the parts I have for the Super-Badd-Maxx rebuild.

Re: T-MAXX TROUBLE SHOOT HELP.
Mine likes to stall once in a while too, but it still has a traxxas carb on it, so no big mystery there.
You have a lot of maxx parts there!

I see you have Powerline arms there. That's what I have on mine too. Are yours the wide or narrow? I have wide, but I think I want to get the narrow ones.
