TALL TALES AT THE TRACK

Tonight's story is about two buddies who ran 12th scale mod at the local paved road course. They pitted together and shared setups. Only problem was that they always finished just behind the Fast Guy, they never could catch or pass his ballistic red and yellow GTP, so they came up with a plan. At the next club main event, they gridded with two cars painted exactly like the Fast Guy's car. He was so confused by the duplicate cars that he crashed and the buddies finished one-two. The next week the fast guy showed up with a freshly painted body and took the win.

I don't race and haven't been to a track in years. Back when I did occasionally go to a track, there probably wasn't a more whiny bunch of prima Donna's around. It wasn't their fault they sucked, it was because so-and-so hacked them or their car wasn't tuned right, or a bad motor, or ... Pretty much why I've always stayed away from racers, in fact most rc enthusiasts seem similarly minded. Not anyone here, of course ...

To clarify, these are toys and that they're supposed to be fun. Everyone who understands that has a good time, no matter how competitive they are. Those that don't, well, sometimes Monster and Klavy and NoThumbs just need to take a breath and relax ...

Used to race with a Father-Son team that had the same paint. Neither were terribly good drivers, but excellent people & popular regulars at the track. One night after a big first turn pileup, the dad got away quickly and was driving the race of his life, really going good. But his young son thought it was his car and was getting all excited, real animated on the stand. A bunch of us pick up on this and start laughing. Meanwhile the marshals gave up on his out of control car and shut it off. Eventually the dad realizes what’s going on and starts chuckling too, which leads to a bunch of crashes. Now the unfortunate son starts getting really mad at ‘his’ sudden turn of pace. Took a few minutes to convince him what really happened. It was hilarious. (hopefully not in a mean spirited way)

Sorry to hear you experiences weren’t good Halgar. Guess I’ve been more fortunate, I’ve been involved in many types of racing practically my whole life, not just RC. Traveling to many tracks. My experience (and my Son’s thankfully) has been quite positive, I’ve always enjoyed the guys, and occasional gal, at the track. Usually the bad apples don’t hang around for long.

Of course it could just seem that way to me because I’m the problem child….

OK , this one happened back when I raced with the Greater Los Angeles Radio Control Race Club (GLARCRC.) Early Sunday morning the guys show up to set up boards for 1/8 gas racing. They discover to their dismay that overnight a big rig has been left parked dead center in their reserved section of the lot, the driver long gone, probably at a motel. The solution was simple, the track was built around the rig and the sweeper built under the trailer. That afternoon during the mains the driver returned and sat quietly fascinated until the boards came down and he drove away.
