Gear Covers
I am trying to finish up all my RC10 projects and get the period correct parts on them. Which one of these gear covers came first. Is it possible to tell which correct kits these go on. Thanks much.

Re: Gear Covers
Not sure what you have on the left (some type of aftermarket, I think?) but the right one could be found on most RC10's from late Edinger to Cadillac, Graphite, TQ10 and may have been on early type CE (but not 1000% sure about the CE)!

Re: Gear Covers
The one on the left is an Edinger cover, it is the one that came after the clear early Edinger one.

Re: Gear Covers
Thanks again for the info. I was thinking this because of the color of plastic and the thinness. Now that I have conformation I can continue by building.

Re: Gear Covers
No, not nessicarily- The "edinger" covers can be divided up into early, and late covers. The early cars had crystal clear covers-the later had the opaque non lexan covers. And the opaque cover ran all the way into the RC10 CE ( 6 gear ). The one on the right intrigues me though-

Re: Gear Covers
I have four of the right side ones so that makes sense that there were more in production.

Re: Gear Covers
So it is! The picture is a little deceiving as the cone looks like it continues all the way to the base!RC10resto wrote:The one on the left is an Edinger cover, it is the one that came after the clear early Edinger one.
Left is early/mid Edinger (not first)
Right is mid to late Edinger and all Cadillac to early RC10CE (there was a very late 6 gear CE that used the early Team Car cover).
I hope CamplinP will let me use that pic in the 25 year thread?

Re: Gear Covers
There were in fact three types of "early" Edinger gear covers (like the one on the left), the clear and thin one, the glossy and thin one and a clear and thick one, then AE switched to the next type (on the right). Just throwing some useless eurocents...

Re: Gear Covers
Hey, be my guest. My name is Paul by the way. I have not gotten around to doing my "who the heck are you" piece yet. I don't have a whole lot of stuff but if you need any other pics let me know. I have from early Edinger stuff to the black Team car. No Worlds yet.slotcarrod wrote:So it is! Do you have any pictures you could share?Asso_man! wrote:There were in fact three types of "early" Edinger gear covers (like the one on the left), the clear and thin one, the glossy and thin one and a clear and thick one, then AE switched to the next type (on the right). What do you mean by "glossy" ?
Where would this semi translucent one, shown on the left fall?

Re: Gear Covers
Here's a pic of the thick transparent one I have on my Edinger (from this thread: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=6488)
I also have the thin transparent one, but maybe I should take a side-by-side picture of them.
The third one would be the one on the left of the pic posted above. Sounds clearer?

Re: Gear Covers
So Associated was experimenting with different material thick/thin and ended up with the thin semi translucent, stronger plastic. Same mold for the early to mid Edinger!
