Tamiya Falcon stock runner

Post by dldiaz »

Tamiya Falcon was the first R/C I ever entered in a race, back in the mid-80's. I no longer have that buggy, but, I have accumulated a few others in recent years.

This is an almost 100% stock Falcon - only upgrades are bearings and CRP dogbones - with period correct electronics, including a stick radio. The rolling chassis is in near-new condition. I run this thing around the yard once-in-a-while, the major impedement to competitive driving is the slow reaction of the mechanical speed control, otherwise it runs pretty darn good...

Please enjoy some pictures:

You car looks awesome! My first kit was also a Falcon. I remember assembling the shocks without the o-rings! An employee at the LHS/track took the time to help me rebuild them. I wish I still had that car; I sold it to buy a Monster Beetle. I recently rebuilt the MB and am now waiting to pick a body for it. I'm sure it will be as much fun as it was when I was a kid. I plan on using an old Futaba and a Novak Rooster that was given to me recently (could never afford an ESC when I was a paperboy) to keep it 'period correct'.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

I've always wanted to do a double-deck chassis to replace the bathtub on this model. Won't happen as long as there's no vintage class racing around here though :|

Very nice! :D
Is that the original body/paint/decals?

My first Tamiya was a Falcon.
I still have it 23 years later!
Just got it going again after a rebuild.

Picked up another recently,
which turned out to be in better nick than my original one.
Will rebuild that next.

I'm also collecting parts for a new built Shelf Queen.

I'm still keen for a couple more.

Go the Falcon!! :D

I believe that is the original body/paint/decals on my Falcon, although the front of the body was touched-up on the OUTSIDE of the lexan (gives that dull finish...).

- Does anyone know what year The Falcon was released?

If things seem under control, you are just not going fast enough.

The first time i saw a Falcon was at my home club in W.A. back in 87, 88

A young kid had one and was very quick i thought but didn't like the corners too well.

I,m not a fan on the falcons but do respect them in some way. The Kid moved on and got a 2nd hand Optima.

Those were the days.

Nice Falcon though.
