Newb with 6010

Post by berman »

Hi guys, My name is Neil. Some of you might recognize my username from TamiyaClub, as I certainly have noticed a few names over here :)

I would like some help identifiying my used RC10 so I decided this would be the best place to ask. I acquired this buggy and a RC12i pan car recently from my LHS for basically nothing (I bought another old car for $20us) and these were thrown in. I've taken quite a liking to them both and would really like to give them both a tidy up somewhat and make them look reasonably good as they both appear to have had a hard/working life. ALthough in saying that I'm quite happy to work with what I've got and not buy brand new parts if I dont have to.

From my very limited knowledge (learned from reading on here last night), what I find odd, is that I have an Edinger box, but the buggy looks to have a copperish (Cadillac?) gold pan and non-locating spring cups, so this would make it a non-Edinger car right? Over here is highly unlikely anybody would switch or try to get hold of an older box hence my confusion.

I would like to find out the year and what I am working with.
Any advice comments or suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated :)

*Oh yes I'm not sure why a Kyosho Le Mans motor is in there, but the RC12i has a AE off road stock motor, so I'm guessing this is the period correct motor for it?

Cheers in advance
Neil

Hey bro, haha you know more than me! I also had the model number wrong on TC

What's up with the front tires Gammacrush?

Also note the ones in the pic below didn't come with the car, I found them in my spares box as I was looking for some rears and figured these may fit the front. Also that wing above was in the RC12i box when I got it, I dont know what it's from. and the acoms reciever is in there as somebody modified the Novak 4 plug and this is out of my AW27 in my blackfoot, I wanted to check if the RC10 ran. Otherwise the car is how I got it.

If anybody would like me to post more pics or closer ones please let me know :)

Thanks to all that have posted/Pmed me so far!

Cheers
Neil

More importantly is the old tamiya window mesh which is essential in making a box art shell.

Hey Shodog :) Is the mesh a tamiya part? It could have possibly found it's way into the box from years of sitting in the back of the LHS I got it from (wouldn't suprise me!)...

Cheers

Hi Berman.... I think you'd commented on my Clodbuster project at some point on T.C :) Welcome to RC10Talk!

Your RC10 looks to be of the same era as mine.... there seems to be some vagueness as to when exactly production was transferred from Edinger to the Caddilac addresses, indeed it would seem that AE operated out of the two addresses for a while. However I would say that we have Cadillac cars but packed into boxes that still have the Edinger address - certainly all the parts on your car would indicate an early Cadillac car. If you still had the instructions & parts list, you'll probably find it would have the Cadillac drive address on those.

The RC12i is probably a similar era to the buggy (Possibly earlier as the replacement the 12L I think was released in 86?) - it would be interesting to know what address is on the motor sticker fitted to this car (you could assume the motor was the one that originally came in the RC10?)

Hi Dan, yes I remember, the fresh white Clod! Thanks for the welcome! :)

Thanks for the heads up, I am starting to believe that what you say is what it is, it could be a mix-up hash of parts and boxes. To be honest it doesn't bother me which it is, I just didn't want to be putting the wrong parts on it if it was something different. Maybe the Kiwi's got the left overs haha. Unfortunately it didn't come with a manual or parts list.

I've taken liberty of uploading some pics of my RC12i and the motor and other contents. It's quite possible these two AE's belonged to the same person, so someone could have done a switcheroo. If you or anybody else could offer any help it would be very much appreciated.

I do know it has a carbon driveshaft, as (apart from being obvious) there was the remains of a packet/instructions in the box. So I'm guessing this is a hop-up?

On with the pics:
