Race Cars

Post by Whiskers »

Hear me out, and it might mean something.

I was working on my "Losiated/RPM Car", (which is a runner) and I found some problems. Loose steering, etc.

Point is, people say we play with "TOYS", but the fact is, if you run the stuff, it's the same as a real race car only smaller. I spend more time doing P.M. (Preventative Maintenance) than I do running :D

I'm Driver, Crew Chief, Pit Crew, etc, all rolled into one. :D

Whiskers, I hear ya brother.

Quite often, just when I'm about to light mine up for a run I hear "Daddy, I kinda hit the (fill in stationary object of your choice) and now my truck wont turn anymore...".

And I love every minute of it. :D

It all seems to revolve around the kids now-a-days and I am with vowels there. I love every minute of it.

My wife calls them toys until I hand her the remote. Then she gets that kid grin she has not felt in years.

But then she realized just how entailing this hobby is and she appreciates it more.

I got her hooked on Air Hog choppers now.
He's an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too.

When I gave my wife the remote (of a car, not the tv) she also grinned like tadrakets wife, and she also drove into things like aeiou's kids.

but it was kinda different, scary really.
Luckily it was just a cheap chinese mini-inferno clone.

Here she was going for another car, I saved it just in time.

Nice Body! (on the R/C car I mean)

What is that body anyway, and what is it mounted on?

It's kinda sad, but I only handed the radio to one of my kids once, and then promptly took it back. My stuff has always been "Full Race", and even when I try to tone it down for a beginner, it's still to fast.

But anyway, I'm glad I finally made a post that got some "Yee Haw"! :D

The body came full fendered originally but when they started cracking off (too sharp seams) I cut them off to use as a racetruck body.
Looked awfull bad. But I'm glad I kept it : it looked super cool on this academy STR 4 : your standard 190 mm touring car.

the body came in an anonymous clear plastic bag as far as I recall; I was only about 17 then, turning 34 this saturday :)

correction: it was a bolink body.
I remember seeing this decal sheet between my stuff later and am sure I never bought another bolink body. Must have been the hot rod.

Bolink had quite a few bodies like that, with some still being made for the Legends cars. I recall a few guys using that '34 Ford on some drag cars back in the day.

Neat look on a touring car.

If you like that, check out the McAllsiter thread on DirtOval.com with the new body announcements. Gary just made a new "Coupe" body and his photos show it off on a TC3 chassis. Looks sweet.

It wasn't barely as cool with the fenders, but open wheels are not allowed on touring car races.
We'll see if this body gets back on a touring car soon: doesn't look like I'll get back into competition anyway (however much I'd like too).

Added:
Now if I had a set of the ultima sprinter wheels and tires: wouldn't that look cool under this body?
(djeez, always forget that models name)

Yeah, my little "driver" isn't at the point where he can handle my race-level rigs, but he's getting closer every day. I picked up a couple of real cheap RC10T beaters on eBay for him to learn with, and I started him off with 4-cell batteries, geared real slow, etc. I put in an old Novak ESC which also allowed me to tone down the speed a bit more. Sure, he still bashed it a lot at first, but that was expected, and not that painful due to the low investment. He's advanced quickly and now runs 6-cells and a Novak stock brushless setup - in that same truck (Man, those old 10Ts can take a beating).

To your original point - I've always been amazed at how close these things are to full-sized vehicles. The slightest changes can make a big difference in performance. Back when I used to race on a regular basis, hours were spent at the track with setup and testing and that was always an enjoyable time. I suppose I like the building and setup as much as I like the driving.

There have been several neighbors and friends that have given me that “so, you’re a grown man playing with toys” look. But quite often, they have a different opinion when I give them a closer look at our stable. Even those with casual interest can quickly see how technically different our vehicles are compared to the thing they bought for junior at WalMart. Some of them have actually entered the hobby themselves and occasionally stop by for advice and backyard runs.
