23 Mph with RC-10

Post by soniccj5 »

I Know 23mph is not fast for today's R/C market, but I was excited.

Well I would say that 23MPH is still pretty respectable for a vintage RC10. The Tranny of which originally was not designed to run Brushless. I don't understand the newer generations obsession with speed. I'd much rather a car that was quick - and still handled well.

Just a quick question - did you watch the run time too?

I did not keep an eye on the runtime, but my wife said I was outside for 40 minutes. It had plenty of low end punch. Can't wait for another tack day.

Thats cool, I plan on adding a lower turn Brushless to my Traxxas TRX-1 runner in the quest to squeeze out more track time.

That's about the perfect speed in my opinion. Once they get too fast it takes away from the fun. Plus you need such a huge area to run them that you have to pack a bunch of crap up and go to a big parking lot or something. Not to mention speed=broken parts. It is fun every once in a while though.

Thought about putting my 2:25 stealth in to see if I can reach 30mph :D . My town just paved our street so I have a good stretch of road to open it up.

Back in the day there was an unlimited class at out club around the small dirt oval, there was a hornet and a grasshopper running 9.6 volt packs that could both easily do 40mph. We used to drive them beside cars down the street while tuning them for more top speed :)

i agree too, that's a good fit for brushless in an RC10. The locals run 8.5T in the 2wd class, so I have that in one of my vintage racers, which I think is good if you got experience. I also got a mamba max 5700 in a 10T, which is too much. I tried fixing so many parts, but cant seem to get it right. My next runner is going to be 10.5t brushless.

That is a nice set up. I run the same Novak 10.5 with a Reedy 3600 Nimh battery and a 6 gear transmission set up with a 12 tooth pinion and 54 tooth spur. I get around 31-32 mph but I am running 2.2 inch tires all around so my roll out is bigger. I think it is a nice balance of speed and runtime (20-25 minutes). The 6 gear has had no problems with this set up so far.

I used my GPS device to get the top speed. I used some computer cable Velcro straps around the battery to hold it in place. I would be too afraid to drive next to a full sized car. What if the radio glitched and the R/C car went under the tires(crunch) .. :|

Yes :) lol back then you couldn't jump on ebay and buy a radar gun and civilian gps didn't exist so you just had to drive them beside a car
