Lazer Alpha and Big Brute Projects

Post by sgirouard »

Well I've been slowly but surely getting in parts for my Big Brute. All that's left is a rear shock, which is in transit, a passenger side mirror and 3 clear plastic covers for the lights on top of the light bar. Aside from that the only thing I could do is to get a new body and paint it box art but I like the all black look.

My second project arrived in the mail today. All told, VERY happy with the condition. I need a belt cover. I'm still trying to decide whether to keep it stock with the plastic shocks etc or upgrade to golds/platinums. I have a pair of front golds and I have a pair of rear platinums coming. (scored those cheap). Looks like I might have another pair of rear golds coming from a trade. I'm going to install a Kyosho mega modified motor and see how it goes. I had optimas and always wanted a lazer (I know I got the yugo version but still, it's nice to have).

I'm going to have to do a new body. The previous owner cut a hole in the top and drilled 4 drill holes for who knows what reason but hey, cant really complain for the price.

If any of the lazer experts notice anything else I'm missing, please advise. Also who can explain how to tighten the belts? I raced a belt drive turbo optima, never got a mid or a lazer.

I have alot of lazer experience, and I recently sold one of these cars. They are definately not a race car. They may be ok for bashing, but you will need to take it easy. There is no way to adjust the belts on this car in stock form. You will need to coble together some sort of tensioner system for the front (relatively easy) and for the rear transmission (more difficult) if you decide you need one. One nice thing about these cars is that most of the Lazer ZX and ZXR parts will fit and will greatly improve performance, should you want to drop some coin and make it a racer. LMK if you have any specific questions, I may be able to help. -Jeff

i would shelf it you dont see many in good condition and even though its not worth as much as it,s competive brothers a nice start to the lazer collection .
they are very fragile and dont take much to break the usaul areas of the lazer weekpoints
i wish i had kept mine
i have the original motor and msc if you decide to shelf it LMK

Yeah. I'm selling both. I really want to pursue my solid axle monster truck project and I don't have the disposable money to do so. So they will be casualties of war LOL.

Thanks for the offer. I already had the shock on order and it came in yesterday. The Brute is all good now.

here are some pics (also all the spare parts, minus one of the shocks and the steering block)
