XXT

Post by tn102 »

I just received earlier today my xxt I bought a week ago. I have a few questions though.

1. What bodies will fit? The 2 that it came with are not the best, so I would like to get a new one.

2. Should I change connectors? All I have is the tamiya, traxxas, and another with black and red ends that connect together (older powerpoles, but the package calls them different, can't think of the name right now). However, the Novak cyclone ESC has a deans on the end. All my good batteries have the traxxas, and I have the connector for the traxxas for my charger.

3. How can I tell what edition it is? It came with a pair of special edition wheels and a pair of regular wheels.

Thats a XXT CR - it has the later two peice rear pivot plate with inboard toe-in

The dished wheels you show appear to be XXXT wheels

These make great fun & durable trucks - & can be still very competitive for racing, providing you can find somewhere that still race 1/10th stadium trucks, that looks to be in pretty good shape from the pics.

I just got a new battery for it, and a new body. I need to paint the body. I know I have to paint it on the inside, and I have to use special hobby paint, but how much do I need? I want to do a simple 3 color paint job, but I might do just one. I never painted a body, so I don't know how much to get. LHS sells the tamiya stuff for 5.56 for a 3oz can. Is there anything cheaper at walmart or something that'll work?

One can of the Tamiya 'lexan' paint should just about do the whole shell - 5.56 for your can sounds pretty good if you're talking dollers, thats about what we have to pay for the Tamyia cans but in UK Sterling - which is nearly twice your $!

I've been using primer paint for plastic/abs bumpers from my local motor accessory store (Halfords) - but as its only available in Oxide red, Grey & White, means colour choice is really only white :D but as most of my shells have a bit of white in them its all good especially as you get a bigger can for less ££s. As this is designed for plastic, it doesn't flake off like it would if you used 'normal' car paints.

Remember to paint your dark colour first - & spray light coats - making swift passes with the nozzle about a foot away from the shell  You may find that the painted shell is a bit transparent if held up to the light - don't worry as it will look ok when its attached to the car.

Would krylon fusion work? It says it is fully chip resistance in 7 days.

I am going plain black. I think it'll work well with my Novak stickers I want to use.

don't use krylon or anything else thats not polycarbonate specific. tamiys ps (not ts) paints and pactra paints work well.

As Kaiser says, prob best to stick with paints that are specifically designed for the clear Polycarbonate (Lexan) shells from your model shop. Some non-specific paints might attack the plastic?

I know I once spent ages painted up a shell for a mate, he ran it once & then decided to clean off a tyre mark with some Motor Spray - it literally turned to molten plastic in his hands!!

One good tip is to 'key' the inside of the shell - using a green scouring pad to gentley scratch the inside surface of the shell (obviously don't do this on the areas you want left clear, like the windows) Despite how it looks before painting, the paint will 'fill' the fine scratches, & from the outside you won't be able to tell once it is painted
