Restoring a plastic shell

Post by Twin Detonator »

I got a RC10T that came with a slightly scratched up used clear vintage body. It has a few slight cracks in the roll bar area, and has some mild scratching on the roof and hood.
Can I wet sand and polish the scratches out of the body? It looks like most scratches can/will be covered up with decals at some point.
Can the cracks be glued with super glue and then any white residue polished out?
It will be used as display body as I have a new Protoform Dodge truck body I can use to run on it.

Lexan isn't very forgiving when it comes to repair or restoration. You can fix light scratches, but buffing doesn't work after heavy sanding, since Lexan reacts to heat from any serious sanding, or buffing.

Basically, if you only want to fix it for display, you can glue from the inside and touch up cracks with the same color paint after the glue is dry. Stickers in strategic areas will help also. Just keep in mind that the glue isn't very good at bonding, so handle it gently if you want it to last and not require frequent touch ups.

hope this helps!
