a friend of mine has a all metal 6 gear.. im not impressed with the idea..the way they have that trans/idler gear with 1 bearing assemble i feel the plastic would work best..i always say new black idlers, bearings on the outdrives then you have a great car..a new 48 pitch spur gear is always nice tooTHE H.P FREAK wrote:HI!... Well I hand deburred all the gears by hand, and then ran them through a 8000rpm brass wire wheel. Very smooth.
Has anyone ever takin a set of outdrives and ground off the outdrive section just leaving a steel idler gear, and then using it as a steel idler gear? Just thought it would bullitproof the 6 gear trans some more. All steel internals.
I just posted an answer to a similar question on another thread. I had some steel idlers from MIP (I think), and they were a pain to wear in. You had to chuck the outdrive in a drill, and use automotive valve grinding compound (it came in a little green can) to "seat" the gears. It was ok, for a while, but they would get odd rough spots, and you'd have to do it again. I eventually trashed them.THE H.P FREAK wrote:HI!...
