To wing or not to wing?

Post by sneako43 »

Is a wing necessary for a buggy that is not going to be raced? My "low buck build" will most likely never see a proper track.

Thanks.

I would if you did high speed runs on an oval but I haven't ever noticed a need on an offroad without any long runs but thats just my $.02.

I think it is a must for racing, there are a lot of advantages to it and depending on the wing and the angle you adjust it you get different performance qualities with the car.
not really needed for bashing, but I do think it helps on jumps if you bashing include jumping.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not planning on running one.

Just in case I do in the future, I have been searching for wing mount tubes with no luck....is there another solution / hardware store fix?

I don't know, man.

At low speeds, the wing doesn't matter.

At high speeds, if done properly, the wing can add stability and rear traction (and therefore braking) at the expense of top-end speed (gotta get that downforce from somewhere). If the wing is providing downforce over the rear axle, it is decreasing high-speed steering response, which in most cases is good.

At high speeds, if done improperly, the wing can cause undue loss of top-end speed and can severely decrease steering. For example:

This probably doesn't work too well.

If things seem under control, you are just not going fast enough.
