Recent Find Early Tamiya #$%@^&#& SRB please help I.D.

Post by Romulus-10 »

I had Tamiya cars as a kid, but never one this early. I am not sure the difference from a Rough Rider / Sand Scorcher, or a Super Champ. I noticed this had 4 front shocks and a Aluminum & Fiberglass chassis, these I haven't seen in other photos. Can someone please educate me if they have the time on this car.

Thanks in Advance

That would be a rough rider or sand scorcher. The chassis is essentially the same between the two with the exception of body mounts and tires. The F150 used same chassis and it's own front body mount, rear roll bar and wheels. The Superchamp was significanly different with it's monoshock set up and suspended radio tray.

Thanks so much, that's very helpful. Did they all come with a aluminum chassis bottom or is this a hop -up part?

I think I would take my time and re-store with old parts. I think the buggy has a great look to it. I am glad someone made the Aluminum chassis it looks really well done. Thanks for all the info. :D

I think I will keep the set up of how I got it, with the aluminum chassis and the 4 front shocks. The repro Sand Scocher body sounds great, I will get one right away. Any idea how to remove the paint from the Scorcher without hurting the plastic?

Easy off oven cleaner or brake fluid

I wasn't sure i was going to. But your right, maybe a slight off white or light blue for the hood accents. I spear i won't remove the paint. Your are right.

Thanks, great ideas. Now I need to find all these old parts, I would like to find original stuff to restore it with. Maybe just get the bodies new.

That sounds great, I will use your ideas for sure. When I mentioned original parts, I was refering to complete the car not the body. I noticed my roll bar is bent, and I am missing the top most of the electronics tray. So i will search those pieces out to. Of course i want them to be in good used condition not new, that would look weird and waist mint old stuff.

I saw this car in person. The aluminum chassis is so well made it really looked like something commmercially made... If it was homemade, the owner really loved this car.

I have extra easy off I will not be using again :)
(see my Blue RC10 posts)

I love the metalwork of this original Tamiya cars/trucks. Like the RC-10 I think something was lost in the artform when the graphite and composite materials came out. They serve a purpose, but it will never be the same.

Keep up the great work Romulus!
