RC10 Rescues Part II - Assembly Line Escapee

Welcome to RC10 CoffeeTalk. Today's installment of RC10 Rescues includes an RC10 that either escaped the final process at the factory... or perhaps was kidnapped along the production journey.

I was given this 'box o' junk' in trade for a charger. The silver RC10 pan caught my eye but at first glance I thought it was just a pan that had been stripped of it's annodizing.



Upon closer examination... I noticed that none of the holes in this chassis had been countersunk.

I'm all verklempt.... talk amongst yourselves.

My guess is there's something slightly wrong with the chassis (misaligned holes or similar) and/or nose and they were rejects for the anodizing process. Maybe the factory gave it away to a worker or a supervisor took it home for his kid?

it probably got missed during manufacturing, failed QC at associated, was set aside and forgotten about or used for a sample, then through series of events ended up outside the company.....

I agree.
Doesn't look like anything special except a reject that someone may have stolen or taken from the aluminum scrap bins they had for any unwanted product. They probably thought they would build themselves a car with it and just have fun at little to no cost (maybe they even took some of those parts bolted to it to make themselves the car).
Looks like it has some wicked bends/warping in the area where from where the rear bulkhead bolts on to the end of the chassis.
We know that the holes are all drilled at the same time, but it looks like it got rejected for some reason before it went to the countersinking process, then out to be anodized.

I agree with all those possibilities listed. Which is exactly why it is special. It's one of those rare oddities that makes it cool.... to me for sure.

I just said that because our company manufactures a lot of things currently and we have huge reject material bins where parts weren't made right or didn't pass QC and are just scrap metal from that point on.
The other reason is due to my work background in the RC industry; I was once one of the main design engineer's for Composite Craft and I can tell you I saw tons of chassis, towers, you name it, rejected and tossed out for many different reasons.
So don't take any offense to my comment, it's just to guys like myself that came from the R/C industry parts like that hold zero value to us. I remember having about 200 to 300 RC10 graphite chassis in my office at Comp. Craft in a very large box with towers, arms, molded battery holders, Houge parts, etc... things I had inspected that just didn't quite meet our standards for retail sale, but could have been used by someone that couldn't afford a retail part. So I held on to them to try and be a nice guy for others, but I ended up tossing the whole box out when we moved from one facility to a another a few miles away because I didn't want to have them lug it to my new office.

I'm actually happy that it has some value to you!
