Removing decals?
Removing decals?
Just purchased an old Tamiya Blackfoot and am wondering what is the best/ easiest way to remove the old decals before I paint the body. Remember this is a hard plastic body not a clear one.

Re: Removing decals?
I would say you still need to pull them off the old fashioned way and then probably use Goo Gone to clean the residue off the body.

Re: Removing decals?
I've had good luck with denatured alchohol & a clean rag.

Re: Removing decals?
You can also try using a bit of heat to make the decals come off easier. I've had good luck running a body under the hot water faucet for 10 seconds or so to heat up the glue.
Re: Removing decals?
A little heat and the decals came off pretty easily, guess I was worried about nothing. They were pretty old and figured they would be stuck pretty good.
Didn't realize double posting was a no no, just thought I had a better chance to get a response. Sorry

Re: Removing decals?
Hello everyone I am new to the site. Can you use the same method to remove decals from a lexan body?
Thanks,
Clayton

Re: Removing decals?
Those "decals" are most likely just stickers. Just get a fingernail under the corner and peel. Goo gone works well to clean up any residue.Clayton wrote:Hello everyone I am new to the site. Can you use the same method to remove decals from a lexan body?

Re: Removing decals?
I always do my best to get all the decal off by hand . If you need heat use a hair-dryer or heat gun if your used to using one, just be careful not to melt the styrene body. Then use WD-40 to remove the adhesive. Just spray it on and let it sit for about 10min or so and then wipe it off with a rag or paper towel, repeat if you need to. Then wash the body with dish soap to lift the WD-40 and it will be sqeaky clean. Been doing it this way for years and it has always worked great.
Re: Removing decals?
No one here has mentioned wd40.

Re: Removing decals?
WD-40 is good. I use it to get the stickers off, and then I use brake cleaner to get rid of the residue!

Do, or do not! There is no 'try'!
RC; Boats, Buggies, Trucks, Bash's, Racing and of course 'VINTAGE'!

Lighter fluid (Zippo, Ronsonol) works well for the sticky residue. Evaporates cleanly as well.

Re: Removing decals?
Should any special care be taken when removing decals from carbon chassis plates, or can these same methods be used just as described (heat, WD40, etc)?
