Oval track size

Post by Clayton »

Looking to build an oval track to race on with the family. What length would be good? Should the curves be be banked? Going to use clean fill dirt to create surface. Any suggestions would help.

banked turns are a double edge sword if you ask me, not as hard to maintain but a pita to build. a flat oval will see dips through the turns like so

bad pitcure but you can see he ruts, they get so bad they can swallow up baja 5b sprinters and 1/8th nitro late models Image

as for length if your only running 1/10th casually a 200ft run line would be more then good to really wind them out.

If it's just for the family or friends I'd say smaller is better. No bank. Check out the youtube links within this post(they were pre-embedding on this site and I'm too lazy to go back and fix them). 4.6 or so second laps with stock Slashes and it's a friggin' blast! :D

For the family at this point. Any friends are invited when it is complete. Not sure how big the RC crowd is in Delaware. Have three goldpans currently in the process of setting them up as sprinters & late models. We have be playing with them on baseball fields so far.

Thanks everyone for the advice to date.
