Lazer ZX, ball diff compatibility?

Post by Asso_man! »

Does anyone know if the front ball diff set for a Pureten would fit the Lazer ZX front gear box? The Kyosho Spider diffs look to be compatible with the Pureten as well? Or maybe an Optima Mid front ball diff is compatible as well?

I would like to upgrade a Lazer ZX with geared diffs to ball diffs all around. Any help would be highly appreciated as I am quite a noob when it comes to Kyosho stuff.

Cheers and thanks in advance

Yes sir ! You are correct, and a much better differential as well. Kyosho USA used to have these. One on the bay right now.

Thanks Aaron. Now, are the front and rear diffs the same?

EP Kyosho Spider = Pure Ten = Tour Force (TF) = EP Nostalgic

GP and EP Spider/Pure Ten/Tour Force have some differences though.

I use them in my lazers, and can attest to them being a much better diff than the early kyosho ball diffs. -Jeff

Thanks for the help guys. Now my next question is what other parts do these models (Spider, PureTen, Tour Force) share with the Lazer?

For example, would a Spider center one-way shaft work on a Lazer with little to no modification?

http://cgi.ebay.com/KYOSHO-SPW57-SPW-57-GP-10-SPIDER-CENTER-ONE-WAY-SHAFT-/270687870324?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f06411d74

And what about a Hyper Clutch Set for the Pureten EP, would it fit a Lazer gearbox?

The one-way in that auction is for the GP Spider. EP Spider part # is SPW-8. I don't know if it fits the Lazer.

Parts that fit the Optima MID:
- SPW-1 toe angle adjuster
- shock mounts probably too.
- a-arms (SP-1, BV-3(H), and later)

Lazer:
- Any diff related part should work (ball diff (39506), rigid axle (92501), front one-way (W-5111), gear diff)
- a-arms?

If you try fitting the one-way (SPW-8) and it fits, then the 2-speed (SPW-9) and Hyper Clutch will likely also fit.

Well as your new

Spur gears can be bought from RW racing in the uk, i would opt for the one with B4 hexes as you can use the B4 or SC10 extra torque slipper pads to handle brushless motors.

Kamtec in the uk do the lazer zx-s shell with undertray and fits and thanks to Aaron they now do the tom cat shell but you will need to find a zxr undertray to use.

Belts are on ebay and still available

Ujs, two of the eight sizes for the zx-5 five fit but someone here knows the part numbers.

Fibre lyte in the uk does every conceivable flat part for the lazer, chassis, top decks, shock mounts, steering plate, etc

Wheels, the ansman mad rat 2wd wheels front and rear are an identical match in width and fit without any problems.

Hope this is of use. Anything ived missed the guys will put in.
