In the beginning.....Goatless 1st build

Post by Goatless »

I have sorted thru the mess, separated what I thought was RC10 and what I deemed Schumacher. Fixing to read thru the manuals and parts listings and try and inventory what I have, and what I need. :?

Well, I just spent an hour or so thumbing thru the manual to see what I have new, used, or already mounted on a chassis. After reading Bag #'s and Part #'s, I was amazed to see 90% of the original bags in the box.

Image

Minus sorting thru rims and tires (again) and the battery trays (which I have used) the only parts I'm lacking brand new are:

Part #6207 Front Suspension Mounts
Part #6330 Body Mount
Part #6360 Rear Suspension Mounts
Part #6374 Rear Stub Axles

Amazingly, I have everything else, minus a few screws possibly............. BRAND NEW!! 8)

The BLACK parts I have may eventually be used for the Big Boy Toys Sprint conversion. I have tons of white parts left, so I could go that route as well.

Now I'm able to get started with a build. What a long, strange trip this shall be!

Very cool! Does your brother in law have any idea what he was giving you in terms of value?

None at all. It came from his coworker, who owned it originally. I guarantee he knew what he had. He gave it to the brother-in-law, who could care less about RC, lol.

Thanks Teman. The hunt is on for a few parts. Shouldn't be long before I can access the b/s/t area and make some deals.

I think I will begin on Project "I'm never gonna drive this but it'll look pretty on a shelf" tonight. As I've never built one of these, and will be using the manual, are there any helpful tips from you guys who have built tons of these?

This morning, I woke up and said "lets start my build" I've managed to get this far without making coffee, and YES, that is the manual in the background. I AM using it, lol.

Now, time for some Starbucks

What a great find! You're in better shape than me...I wouldn't attempt to install an e-clip before half a pot of coffee, at least.

Any plans on the final set-up as far as dying parts or modifications?
The older I get, the faster I was.

All of the parts are NIP, so, NO dying parts  I'm a firm disbeliever in dying parts, lol. This will be a "box-art" build. Everything by the manual, with bushings instead of bearings. It will likely NEVER see daylight and spend eternity on a shelf in my office, lol.

Remember that these are called oilite bushings, and are full of oil which in pretty short order turns nice new plastic a deep tone of yellow/tan at contact areas. I have also had boxed cars plastic turn yellow on bushings cars in a warmer environent where bushings we not installed, but loose and packaged.

Yessir, these bushings were not oiled. Only enough oil in the shocks to lube the O-rings as well

Did a little more after church, and before league bowling. Managed to get shocks assembled......kinda :?
I seem to be missing 1 spring clamp. I have one that I may be able to salvage after a good cleaning. For now, the rears are mounted 8)
