Orange's first project page... (A&L Builds)

Post by Orange »

Okay, I kinda got a head start on these. So for that I decided to do a three-fer. Meaning that this thread will contain 3 builds in one. And once you see them, you will understand why I am doing 3...

I have been meaning to do a build thread on this forum since I joined almost 3 years ago. But I wanted to do something cool. I think I may have found that project. So I have finally acquired enough items for 3 A&L RC10's listed in this ad:

First up is the Sport:

Next up is the Sport II:

And finally the Pro:

Right now I'm still tossing around the idea of using newer style threaded shocks or using shocks with collars I have some of jaydub's front towers ordered. But still undecided...
The Aluminum tub will eventually get re-anno'd as well as the nose plate on the Sport II...
I am also tossing around the idea of using all white or all black parts for all three cars and that is why I have not wrecked the rear bulkhead on the sport II yet...
And all three will be outfitted with 6 gear tranny's for now...

I am open for suggestions as to what you all think?

All buggies... Haven't decided on bodies yet. That is going to be the hardest part I think. Maybe Mr. Lexan can help me out with ideas in that dept, :)

Very cool projects. Shelfers or runners?

if you want a body that clears the tall shock tower, and is still long enough on the sides to cover the chassis, i think the bolink funco 2 seater (version 1) is the only one that will accomplish both.

That is a good option, thanks!

I'm going to test a few used ugly bodies that I have gotten from ebay auctions and what not as well, cause I don't mind hacking them up... Don't mind too badly at top of shock towers, but it drives me crazy when a body does not cover the chassis properly. I'm sure you can relate?

Okay, so I did one up and this might be okay for this chassis and the Pro chassis... Might have to try the Funco for the fiberglass chassis... Opinions?

Obviously I can trim out a new body to better fit the back part:

And I had to lower the body mount but I did not want to drill the tower, so I made this out of some thick lexan I got at the Depot (It is just something I made quickly so don't mind the rough edges):

Back in the day I cut the rear of the bodies off behind the shock tower as did many people back then. Yeah it looks a little goofy. It's an option though and would still be period correct.

I was thinking about that... I do remember doing that with my Houge car back in the day.

I was going to mention that I didn't think you needed to use a funco body due to the tower, in response to what Scr8p said.

As I recall on my A&L modified CC graphite RC10 I used an Andy's body, similar shape and size to the AE Viper body. Plus I didn't have to hack off the body's rear end.

Looks great!
