My First Double-X Runner

Whoop after 4 long weeks of waiting it's finally there my first XX that im going to race.
It's in ok condition but it looks lets say well used.
I think its an early edition XX because it still has the greyisch steering assembly. Also really like the revolution decals on the chassis brace hope they make it tru the cleaning process.

Today i'll be taking it apart and start cleaning everything. It's gone be a fast build because in the few weeks i had to wait almost all the spares i needed already arrived even the body is already painted up and ready to go. Cant wait to start cleaning i'll be posting some pics soon.

I'm sure that's going to clean up great! Looking forward to seeing the finished article! There seems to be quite a few of us building XXs for racing..... I've been having too much fun with mine & today it will get its 2nd re-build, 6.5bl power has finally taken its toll on the diff & it's all muddy from a wet meeting a few weeks ago

Well after taking it all apart and cleaning everything up i started rebuilding the front and the back suspension think it cleaned up ok for a runner.

I found some nib parts i needed to convert it to a cr rear and for the front i wanted the kingpin and 25 degree spindels.
The rear arms are used from an xxx same as the titanium turnbuckels.
I had to make some space for the Lipo to fit in the chassis and since i really like the way they fit the esc in the 22 buggy i kinda rebuild the tray to fit it in the XX

Still waiting for the white front bulkhead to arrive wanna keep the black one in one piece.

Well the last few days i spend on rebuilding the diff and installing the electronics also finished my setup i'll be starting with the same setup as my xxt and work from there.
Just have to get some new wheels and tyres and its ready to go.

Cant wait to test it on the track...

Thats turned out great! I especially like the TLR22 ESC mount - very neat, does it also help to hold the battery located at the back?

BTW what type of surface will you be racing it on?

I like the XXX cr rear arms & hubs that you did. Wonder how much total toe in that set up has ?

I reverted my XX cr rear end back to XX spec's to stay with in the rules here in Australia. Just love the XX.

The XXX wheels just landed on my doorstep now just wait for the tires to arrive.

The ESC mount holds down the Lipo its a tight fit. Because the xx has this weird bump in the battery tray i use some foam underneat the lipo to fill up the space like you did with the wood and that way it coms high enough to stick under the tray. luckely because i cant use the 2nd velcro strap thingy anymore.

I'll be running it on a outdoor clay track. But because of the wheater here it changes all the time mostly when its dry its a loose surface with a lot of dust. But as i said it changes all the time when there are clubraces and its nice wheater in the morning the surface is loose and dusty and in the end of the day it turns into blue groove on the ideal line so tire choice is really a big thing on our track..


Mad racer the rear hubs have 0 degree toe in and the pivot plate im using has 2 degree so 4 degree total toe in. Not sure how that will work out but on my XXT i noticed that the standard 7 degree toe in is way to much. Same as the 4 degree anti squat that comes with the one piece pivot plate. 0 to 1 degree should be enough on loose surfaces. Thats also why i wanted the cr upgrade so i can play with the anti squat and toe in.

Thanks for the description of how the ESC mount works - I might have to look into doing something similar myself.

I'm sure your XX will be a match for any of the more modern cars on the type of track you describe - especially when the grip is low. Here in the UK almost all the tracks are astro turf where the high grip surface favours the mid-motor cars.

Its funny that you have fitted the XXX rear end parts onto your car, on my mid motor XXX i've converted the rear end to CR XX spec

Well yesterday my tires arrived and today already run it on the track. Have to say it drives really great on our track im not the most talented driver but the car is verry forgiving

This sunday there is BNK (Belgium Dutch Championship) 2wd and 4wd buggy at our track and i think i might just give it a try its probably gone be one of the last outdoor races here since winter is already coming. I know there will be a lot of good drivers and dont think i'll even make it to the the A finals but we will see. Tmrw have to work a little bit more on the setup and get to know the car better so let ya all know how it went..

This is how the buggy looks like completed before hitting the track only have to wait for the gear cover from TBG and its finished for now it will do fine without.
This was the first time i painted a body with more than one color it has some minor mistakes but it will do nicely on the track. I kinda got the colors from Jamin's cars sorry for that but they just look really nice

1 week after the race already time fly's

I have to say i really had a fun weekend with the XX lots of positive responses for bringing out the old buggy on a big event..
Saturday i practiced all day. Didnt have to change much on the setup of the car. Only had to fix a gear cover because it wasn't allowed to drive without so used the one from my xxt and some ducktape :d because it was already broken. Also drilled a hole in the rearshock tower to put an allen screw in for the wing wire to get stuck. Marshalls?? (the guys that pick up your car when its flipped over)
They pick the buggy's up by there wings so the wire comes out.

And for the results on Sunday there where 46 2wd buggys in total. I made it to the C finals qualified 5th and became 4th overall. My fastest lap was 32.130 sec and the winner of the A finals had 26.900 as his fastest lap So there's still a lot of work to do
One of the guys in the A finals drove a few laps with the XX and did laps of around 28 sec so the car is more than capable. Overall a fun weekend and learned a lot. Up to the next race.

Well done - excellent stuff! For me racing these older cars is where I get most of my enjoyment from this interest we share in old RC Cars.... & its so satisfying when you do beat some of the modern buggies! When you think about it your 4th in the 'C' final is above halfway up the leaderboard - i'm sure most of the cars (if not all) behind you were modern designs

P.S; a little trick for the wing wire is to put a little kink in the two 'legs' that push into shock tower - making it a 'sprung fit' & increases the grip of the wire in the hole
