Looks scale to me
Came across this picture while searching for carbon fiber sheets. It just does not look full size but it is. Thought it be a cool design for an r/c car. Look at the size of those shocks. The shocks and the rims combined with the flat black plastic look is what throws me off.

I love how modern supercars are constructed.
Most things I can afford are just steel waiting to rust.

Re: Looks scale to me
That's a Lamborghini Aventador. I did a factory tour about a year and a half ago. It was awesome to see how they make those things.

mmm...I saw an LP 700-4 on the street a couple of weeks ago. Besides having 700 hp, the other thing that stood out on this Italian made rocketship was the huge Lamborghini CarboCeramic brakes with the "Made in Germany" stamp.

Re: Looks scale to me
Actually, it's not. It's 100% Italian designed. VW/Audi has/had zero design input. Also, to work at Lamborghini you must be Italian. (yes, I asked about it) There may be a few parts here and there from non-Italian sources (remember the Alpine Countach ads?) but it's as Italian as any Lambo that came before it. The Gallardo on that other hand, that's a different story. If you want to talk about a compromised Lamborghini, look at the Diablo.
As for the VW thing, Audi buying Lamborghini was the best thing that's ever happened to the company and it's cars since Ferruccio sold the joint. They're building the fastest and most reliable cars they've ever made. Now if they'd just make a proper front engine GT again.

Re: Looks scale to me
Find a single VAG component on a Bugatti or Aventador then. Even the small hidden cable and trim clips on the Bug are titanium.

bugatti's w16 engine is a vw design. as is most of the carkink wrote:Find a single VAG component on a Bugatti or Aventador then. Even the small hidden cable and trim clips on the Bug are titanium.
from wiki (because it's easier to find then the info on the vwag website
while the bugatti is very vwag based the lambo is not, but the company is owned and overseen by vwag. The Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 is a mid-engined grand touring car, designed and developed by the Volkswagen Group and manufactured in Molsheim, France by Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.
btw, i've been working for vw a long time and this type of stuff comes up at out national conventions in conversations all the time.
the ceo jonathan browning has even joked about it, off the record of course.

Re: Looks scale to me
Bugatti and Lamborghini are two entirely different kinds of companies. When Ettore Bugatti died, the car company pretty much died with him. Sure the name was still active and a few cars were made over the years, but it wasn't much of an active company. When Lamborghini sold his company 10 or so years after he founded it, the company continued to make cars and make history. There are workers who've worked there their whole lives and Italians are very proud of the company. If VW was to come in and tear that all up and say they were going to be designing the cars now, that would have been a huge disaster. Again, look what happened with the Diablo and the uproar Chysler caused when it decided it was going to change things and make big creative and design decisions. Not only would that be a big mistake within the company, but it would also be a stupid marketing and investment move. You're buying one of the most legendary brands in all of automotive history. You'd really shoot yourself in the foot if you decided to flush that legacy down the toilet because you thought you could do it better.
Bugatti on the other hand, that's an entirely different animal. They haven't been actively making cars for decades. To buy that brand was to pretty much start with nothing and build something again. It's resurrecting a dead company, you can go about it however you like. It would be like reviving the Cord or Duesenberg brand, pretty much all you're buying is the rights to use the old name, you can do whatever you want with the rest.

Re: Looks scale to me
Yes we all know the Bugatti brand is owned by VW. But that does not make it a VW. If it were "just a VW" you would find various shared components taken from various humble VW cars such as the Golf. Clearly this is not the case.
On the other hand I am sure there may well be the odd tiny insignificant item on a Lambo, taken from the VAG group. Possibly the odd electrical switch etc. But still, nothing of any huge deal.

DUDE, the car is 100% designed by vw engineers. it uses all sorts of vw technology. the w motors are pure vw.kink wrote:Yes we all know the Bugatti brand is owned by VW. "just a vw" lol, you obviously aren't well versed with the brand. bentley, audi, bugatti.....(all designed and built by vwag) yeah just some run of the mill brand.
