Fresh off the Project Table - Porsche 956

Post by mrlexan »

No Scr8p, not an RC10.

Holidays are typically time to get caught up on some projects..... a simple one, Porsche 956. The only thing (I think) that isn't correct is the upper chassis. It's got holes for the Tom's supports. I dont care. One more slightly used one to go and I am gonna get rid of the leftovers.

These seem to be having a bit of a second coming recently, maybe thanks to the re-re and the availability of new bodies.... I have one that I'm working on as well, although it seems to have had it's chassis replaced with a Hot Trick set... and then some dolt has painted the top chassis plate blue!!!!!

Look forward to seeing this completed.... they make nice-looking cars.

Not sure. I'd really like to do a custom set of Lowenbrau livery from the IMSA days.

I'd still REALLY like someone with a CNC machine or any machining skills to do a proper period correct 1/12 wheel. Heck just make solid and I'll get mess stickers made to give them the effect.

Note: the above Datsun pic is not correct, it's a single lug (not 4 as shown).

If BRM can make 'em in 1/24, certainly someone can make them in 1/12. Come on ya'll!

I've been planning to do the same and recently won an auction for the Parma Lowenbrau decal sheet. I just need to get motivated and pick up a few bodies. I have the tamiya racing decals along with the rothmans fillers and also have the tamiya 3 decal pack with canon, iseki an new mans decals.

As for the wheels, I used a set of 935's on my chassis. The rears bolt right on but the front are horrible with no provisions for bearings. They look great on the shelf but would be horrible for running.

Jim, I am about 99% sure that Parma Lowenbrau set is 1/10. Not sure it's going to work for 1/12.

I've got a 1/24 model set from M&S Hobbies that was made for curbside kits a few years back. I haven't been in contact with the source that I used in the past for custom sets. He was a bit expensive and the durability wasn't there (like Doug's).... no fault of his, I think it was a function of the printer he used. Anyway, I'd love to have the 1/24 scaled correctly for the Tamiya body.

Note, I could donate a 935 front wheel which is pretty much correct for proportions, as Jim has pictured, should any of you machinsts take on the challenge. Pretty please?!?!?!?

HI!... If you need a reference point I have 3 fully restored ones. Rothmans, Newman Porsche, and a Toyota Tom's.

Hope you didn't pay a ton of $ for those wheels/tires? The new re-re ones are identical and a whole set (tires/wheels) can be had for less than $20.

I'm pretty sure the Lowenbrau decals I have are for 1/12 scale. Check out how they size up to a Rothmans decals

I have a set of those Lowenbrau decals too. Trying to find somebody to reproduce the set for me.
