21.5 gearing?

Post by ca-rj »

I'm back for another gearing question. I recently bought a 21.5 for my son's CE with Stealth and have no clue how to gear it. Any suggestions?

I gather the safest way to gear these things is with a temp guage. That will ensure that no matter how or where it is driven it doesn't get too hot. I just went by feel with my first brushless and never had a problem, but now that I found a cheap temp guage I like knowing the actual temp of all the components. I guess it depends what you're going for? (speed runs, torque on the track, controllable speed, etc)

It's for my son's car. He mainly drives it in front of our house or at the park. It doesn't need to be fast, I'd just like it to run under 150º after a 15-20 min run.

Speed control came today and I installed the 21.5 motor. I started with 32/69, no timing on the motor. Car has a nice amount of speed. After about 15 minutes of running the motor was at 155º (it's 84º outside). I may go down another tooth or two and see if I can get the motor into the 130's. So far I am really happy. It's nice to not have to worry about the motor and it's really nice to have a built in lipo cutoff.

Currently at 30/69 and it is just about perfect. Car is peppy but not too fast. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who has kids who are learning.
